I always enjoy reading Oscar predictions. I agree with you about most of them, however I think Argo is going to wind Best Picture, and here's why: Before the nominations came out, Lincoln was the odds-on favorite, then the Academy snubbed Ben Affleck in the Best Director category. People were stunned and angry - especially other actors, since Affleck is widely liked and respected. Actors make up the largest voting block of the Academy, and I think the majority will vote for Argo since that's the only way they can award Ben Affleck. Also - he's been picking up other awards right and left for the movie, including the prestigious Director's Guild Award. My prediction - Argo for best picture.

The rest:

Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis. He and Anne Hathaway have almost locks in their categories.

Best Actress - Jennifer Lawrence for SLP. I didn't care for the movie, but she's not only very good in it, she's also given knock-out performances in Winter's Bone and Hunger Games. I like her, but would love to see Naomi Watts take it - an ( ... )

That's a really good point you make about Argo. I really hope you are right, because tbh I really don't want Lincoln to win. I think everything about this movie is so overrated. I didn't think it was bad per se, just nothing (not even daniel day-lewis) was outstanding. So yeah, I hope you're right. Argo was a terrific movie.

I share your feelings about SLP. It's also a vastly overrated movie. I think Jennifer Lawrence performance was good, but if I compare it to Wallis or Riva she and all the other nominees just fall flat IMO. But I love Jen so yeah, I guess I'm fine with it.

Agreed about Anne Hathaway. There is no competition.

You know, the thing about the Best Movie category is, that in my opinion it should be awarded to movies that really contributed something unique and new and outstanding to cinema and I think Beasts does that more than the other movies. Especially since it's mostly made by newcomers. It's such a shame that it doesn't have the slightest chance.

I haven't turned it on yet, but it looks like you called it right for best supporting actor - I'm really surprised. I don't like Tarantino - he's too self-consciously "shocking" IMO, and I hated "Inglorious Basterds" - I thought it was a cheap cheat of a movie - with plenty of Tarentino's trademark gratuitous violence, and a plot that really went nowhere. Waltz was the best thing about it. That first scene in the farmhouse earned him the Oscar that year. I like Waltz, but this year I just thought others were more deserving ( ... )

Actually I didn't, but I got my wish. I really didn't think the Academy would give Waltz his second award so soon after the first. But I'm not complaining. In my opinion his performance stood out among the other nominees. There's just something about his performances that draws me in ( ... )

Actor in a Leading Role

Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook)
Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)
Denzel Washington (Flight*)
Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables)
Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)

Who I think will win: Daniel Day-Lewis
Who I want to win: Hugh Jackman
Also soviel dazu XD .
SO :] .

Actress in a Leading RoleEmmanuelle Riva (Amour ( ... )

Ja, also inzwischen wissen wir ja, wer wo und was gewonnen hat.
Für mich gab es eben kaum Überraschungen. :)

I guessed 18/25 ugh... I meant 14/24 ;) correctly. Not too bad, huh?! ;) And you missed Paperman in the Short Film (Animated) category. Not really important... it just won.^^
