December 5th, 1876 - President Ulysses S. Grant apologized to Congress for mistakes he
claimed he had made during his presidency

What a novel idea.

Why did President Grant hate our freedom?

Haven't you heard? If the President apologises, the terrorists win.

Although I must admit being impressed not only by the apology, but by "mistakes he claimed he had made." This also strikes me as a novel idea: owning up to your own idiocy rather than requiring two or three Congressional panels to point it out. But hey, it's not like that money could be better spent on education, or healthcare, or providing trivial things like armor for the army, or maybe getting some security on all the big shiny things we seem to have around here....
