(title comes from the fact that amai koibito is still on repeat, facepalm.) c-changed the tagging to multi but i'll probably stop here.

water drips slowly from the tap as the toothbrush hangs from nino’s mouth. he can hear ohno still speaking to aiba in the other room, but he can’t remember the last time ohno had found so much to say. ohno’s voice is overflowing with a strange enthusiasm that nino just isn’t accustomed to. he rinses his mouth.
‘you know you shouldn’t get your hopes up,’ nino hears jun say to aiba. ‘ohno’s never going to leave nino.’ nino gulps. all he can do is try to force himself to believe it.
‘i know,’ aiba shrugs, ‘i know,’ and jun can see-nino can see-that aiba really is doing his best.
nino smiles a little and sits down on the floor, resting his head on his knees. the clock chimes twelve, and he drifts off to asleep.
his hand is warm and there’s something that nino normally identifies with lips pressed to his forehead. he opens his eyes dazedly and blushes a furious red.
ohno grips his hand tighter, crouched in front of him and mumbles, ‘it’s already one o’clock. come get lunch with me.’
nino doesn’t refuse, wouldn’t refuse, and stands up to follow.
ohno’s hand never lets go.
‘i think it’s going to rain again,’ ohno says absent-mindedly.
he’s probably right. nino can smell it in the air lately. it’s almost refreshing. ‘probably,’ comes nino’s delayed reply, somewhat distracted by the way the spoon hangs from ohno’s mouth. ‘are you going to finish eating?’
ohno tears his eyes away from the window and looks back at nino. the spoon falls forgotten into the bowl of curry, and some splashes on his shirt.
nino laughs and laughs and can’t find a second to stop. it’s been so long since he laughed like this. ohno never even gets the chance to look embarrassed before he’s laughing as well, trying to dab at the spots with a napkin.
‘come on, let’s get back and wash it up,’ nino says, out of breath.
ohno nods enthusiastically. the napkin is only proving to smudge even more.
nino stops being so wary of aiba after he talks to him.
‘everyone knows ohno would pick you over the world. he said it himself anyway,’ aiba says.
nino’s ears are warm and he smiles at aiba, mutters a ‘thankyou’ that he can barely even hear himself. aiba is so much stronger than nino has ever been or possibly will ever be. he’s just a little envious.
it never ends up raining. the flowers are in full bloom, and the warmth is returning to the air. nino reaches into his bag and pulls out a small box, pushing it into ohno’s hand.
there’s a ring inside and ohno looks up at nino, eyes questioning.
‘to keep people away from you,’ nino tells him.
‘but,’ ohno counters, ‘if i wear it on tv-’
‘then don’t. just wear it around us.’ nino knows it defeats the purpose, but he takes the opportunity to be stubborn anyway.
‘do you love me?’ ohno asks, biting a lip. a bird sings in the tree above them.
nino laughs. ‘yeah, something like that.’
