the art of annoying your friend into submission

“Help me bake a cake.”

Hankyung put down his glass and looked up at Donghae curiously.

“Now,” Donghae urged, shuffling over and picking Hankyung up from the table and ushering him into the kitchen.

Hankyung blinked a few times and finally nodded, “Okay?”

The cake failed, but mainly because Donghae had only realised at the last minute that they had no flour and had tried to use castor sugar as a substitute. Still, it had been worth it for the ‘male bonding’ and Donghae had so nicely put it (with a wink and a punch to the shoulder that Hankyung really had no idea how to take and had ended up smiling awkwardly).

“Come shopping with me.”

Hankyung opened his eyes slowly, rubbing until his vision cleared a little. He couldn’t feel his legs. This was new. He peered over at Donghae, perched comfortably on what should have been the end of the bed, if he had any respect for Hankyung’s personal space, but was instead around the middle somewhere, where Hankyung left his legs on a day-to-day basis. “What time is it?” he groaned.

“Shh, the others are still asleep,” Donghae hushed him, leaning over and clasping a hand over his friend’s mouth, “and it’s about half past six,” he added, albeit a little sheepishly.

“Why are you asking so early?” Hankyung managed to get out, after peeling Donghae’s hand away.

Donghae paused for a minute. “The shop’s kind of far away,” he said eventually, whistling innocently, and continued when Hankyung opened his mouth. “Kind of maybe about three hours away.”

Hankyung couldn’t even find the energy to complain, half because he couldn’t feel his toes, half because it was six thirty in the morning.

Donghae was falling asleep on Hankyung. Donghae was falling asleep on Hankyung. Donghae was falling asleep on Hankyung. (Hankyung was having trouble with where to put the emphasis on this sentence, because no matter how he looked at it, it just did not make sense. Wasn’t Donghae the one who had decided to get up and drive to some in-the-middle-of-nowhere shop way too early in the morning? And did the driver just snicker at him?)

Once they reached the shop on the outskirts of nothing, Donghae took one look and jumped back in the car. “Changed my mind.”

Hankyung had lost his will to be angry at the other about midway back, because his lap had become something of a pillow and just maybe running his fingers through Donghae’s hair like this was nice. (But did that driver just snicker again?)

“Go get me some lunch.”

He would stay put this time, Hankyung had decided. He was putting his foot down.

“Come on, I can’t stop in the middle of this,” Donghae urged his friend.

But didn’t that mean that he couldn’t stop to eat- whatever. Hankyung looked at the TV and frowned. “Boss?” he asked, receiving only a grunt in return.

Hankyung walked off into the kitchen to throw something together, annoyed at himself for giving in. And Donghae. But mostly himself. He returned with two salad sandwiches, minutes later, only to find Donghae sprawled out on the floor on his back, eyes half closed.

“He killed me about a second after you left,” Donghae explained, quickly sitting up and smiling at Hankyung with wide, brown eyes, hands reaching out to grab the plate.

Sighing, Hankyung handed over the sandwich and sat himself down beside the other, biting into his own and chewing lazily. His body froze up and it was all Hankyung could do to not choke when Donghae’s fingers touched the corner of his lips.

Donghae laughed at the stunned look on Hankyung’s face. “Crumb,” he told him before turning back to his own meal.

*

“Let me kiss you.”

And Hankyung really did choke this time. Had he misunderstood? Was his Korean getting worse or something? Donghae mumbled something akin to do I have to say it again? and Hankyung fumbled with the book in his hands, eventually dropping it. “W-What?” he blubbered.

Donghae hopped up on the couch beside him, crossing his legs and turning his body towards Hankyung. Funny, Hankyung thought. It didn’t look like he was joking. He proceeded to ignore Donghae, bending over and picking the book off the floor, jumping at the hand on his thigh as he sat back up.

“Let’s try it,” Donghae urged, beaming.

Why Donghae appeared to be enjoying himself so much, Hankyung had no idea. The hand on his thigh slipped further up and Donghae’s spare hand grasped his shoulder. Hankyung hadn’t even noticed he had closed his eyes until lips brushed against his and it hit him that he couldn’t see. His eyes snapped open again and he pulled away, heart pounding in his head.

“Why?” Hankyung asked, mouth still open as if to say more, but the words were lost somewhere along the way.

Donghae licked his lips casually and sat still for a second. “I guess I like you. You know, like that.”

“You guess?” Hankyung asked incredulously, and then, “You like me?”

*

“Come with me.”

“Huh, what for?” Donghae said through a mouth of toothpaste.

Hankyung just stared.

“Okay, okay, hang on.”

Donghae finished rinsing his mouth and splashed water on his face, droplets clinging to the ends of his hair. He grabbed a towel, dabbing at his face as arms slipped around his waist. The feel of Hankyung pressed up against his back was really distracting. The towel dropped to the floor, forgotten, and Donghae spun around catching the other’s eyes.

“I guess you like me too?” Donghae smirked, ignoring that fact that his stomach was flipping nervously because Hankyung was just so close.

Hankyung grinned and kissed him, the cold water from Donghae’s hair tickling his skin. He pulled back laughing and wiping the drips from his face before fussing with Donghae’s fringe and pushing it to the side, placing another chaste kiss on his lips.

“So, where were we going?” Donghae questioned, raising an eyebrow.

“Hmm, nowhere,” Hankyung smiled and grabbed Donghae’s hand, lacing their fingers together and pulling him away anyway.
