In a funk

I have not posted in a week or so. It has been a busy week or so. Last Saturday, September 26th, my grandfather, Hershel T. Martin, passed away. He was 94. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years and a daughter, Elizabeth. He is survived by seven children, 20 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren ( Read more... )

Don't worry. Grief expresses itself differently every time, and it's also perfectly legitimate to feel relief on behalf of a man who was ready to go, and for your mother, too, who will now have more freedom. It's a joyous thing, too, to look back on a long life and to see a large healthy family who can remember your grandparents.

My grandmother died early a year ago, and one of the saddest things was how few people there were at her funeral. She had only one child, and she outlived pretty much everyone else in her generation and my father's. She'd been saying for years that she was ready to die. There was usually a twinkle when she said it, though.

I'm glad life in general is being good to you.
