Author's Notes:
monitorscreen requested "Inui, Tezuka, laptop". Here you go, dear. ^_^ Thanks to T for the beta. <3
"That one," Inui said, pointing to his left.
Tezuka's gaze followed Inui's finger. From the angle of Tezuka's body and the profile of Tezuka's head, Inui was pretty sure Tezuka was mistaken, but he waited until Tezuka reached a hand out towards the wrong one. "Not the white laptop. The black one to its right."
"Aa," Tezuka said. His hand paused, and then moved to the right. Inui mentally filed Tezuka's style preferences away--white, streamlined design, not a fan of black?--and then moved closer to stand beside Tezuka as the black laptop was lifted a little. "1.96 kilograms," Inui said just as Tezuka's eyes flicked towards the big rectangular sticker affixed to the top left. "The screen is advertised as 12.1 inches, but in truth it's 12.13 inches and--"
"Thank you, Inui," Tezuka said. He turned his head, looking at the white one again.
It seemed the black one was out of favor. Inui cast about in his mind, bringing up the specifications for the white model as well. "The screen is 12.1 inches--not precisely, but the margin of error is negligible in this case--and the keyboard pitch is 0.8 times normal, Tezuka. The other one has a 0.85 key pitch, and it includes a good selection of productivity and entertainment software."
"Thank you, Inui," Tezuka said again, reaching out to touch the white laptop. Inui waited for Tezuka to test the keys--with the portable models, keyboard size could be an issue, especially when one compared it to the average male hand. Instead, Tezuka lifted the laptop, and then tilted it to the side, looking along the edges. Inui counted one USB port, one Ethernet jack, and a memory card slot. Tezuka put the laptop down, looking a little disappointed.
Ah. Inui raised a hand to his glasses, adjusting them a little. "Will you be using an external keyboard with it, Tezuka?"
"Yes," Tezuka answered.
Inui thought as much--he'd seen Tezuka purchasing an ergonomic keyboard two weeks ago (USB connector, Vista-compliant hotkeys). No wonder Tezuka had asked about the manufacturer's reliability two days before that. Tezuka's laptop was unlikely to be used the same way Inui used his own, then, which meant portability wasn't as much of an issue as Inui had originally thought. He quickly discarded his shortlist, and began considering all the recent desktop-replacement models he'd glanced at before.
Tezuka tapped lightly on the keys of the ultraportable, but did not look very convinced this laptop would be a good investment. Privately, Inui agreed. If the size and weight of the laptop was no longer an issue, he would have to recommend a larger screen now. Tezuka's eyesight did not need to deteriorate any further than it already had.
Now that he had Tezuka's design preferences in his data as well ...
"May I suggest this one, then?" Inui said, meeting Tezuka's eyes and then gesturing. "Over here."

As they left the store, Tezuka hefted the box he held, shifting it a little for a more comfortable grip. On the top panel (next to the handle thoughtfully wrapped with bubble wrap for customer comfort), the specifications table could be seen.

At the curb, Inui caught sight of Tezuka's face as he looked for cars. Tezuka seemed content and relaxed.
Inui felt quite satisfied.
