Author's Notes: Oh, bromides! Had to write this, Bane/Sae posing like that was perfectly squee-able. Hearts to moonsliver for the instant beta.

It was cold, and Saeki stuffed his hands deeper into his jacket as he walked towards the lights at the end of the boardwalk. The photographer had already set up, and assistants hovered over Marui and Kikumaru, checking their hair. Saeki thought he saw a patch of bright yellow, and then realized Echizen Ryoma was dressed in a puffy yellow coat and white scarf, looking just like a tennis ball.

"Hey, you made it," Bane said, waving as he walked up.

"Like I'd miss this." Saeki laughed. "Can't let the other schools steal the show." He gave Bane's scarf a glance. "Mmm, that looks warm. Can't stand the cold?"

"Unlike Mister Best-Dressed before me, I don't have any decent shirts, and so this hides the t-shirt underneath," Bane said, unzipping his coat to prove it with a chuckle. "All brown and white, too. Gotta show the Rokkaku pride--we're the only ones here. Pity. They invited all of Seigaku, though. Wonder why they wanted me instead of Aoi."

"Who knows," Saeki said. He winked. "Probably because you're better-looking."

Bane laughed, hooking his arm over Saeki, pulling him backwards with a grin. "Flattery. I'm already yours, you know."

"I know, I know," Saeki said, grinning. He leaned back a bit. "Wonder how they'll want us."

"Just like that, actually," said the photographer, appearing from behind them. "That's good--get closer, boys, we've got you two sharing a frame anyway."

Around Saeki, Bane's arm tightened and pulled Saeki back a little more. "Smile for the camera, Kou," Bane said, squeezing.

The camera had flashed, the photographer had moved on, but Bane hadn't let go yet. Instead, he leaned closer. "Yo," he said softly in Saeki's right ear.

"Hmm? What is it?" Saeki said, turning a bit.

Out of the corner of his eye, Saeki could see Bane's lips curve. "No one's watching, right?"

Just in case, Saeki checked, but he certainly couldn't see anyone looking their way. The photographer and his entourage had moved towards Atobe, and predictably, Atobe had everyone else's attention. "Think so. They're all over there. Why?"

Bane's face pressed against his, and Saeki felt the taller boy rest his chin on Saeki's right shoulder. "Bane," he protested--Bane was about ten kilograms heavier. "You're heavy. Careful or you'll push me over."

"Don't worry," Bane said, warm breath brushing over Saeki's ear. Saeki shivered, and Bane's arm tightened around him. Bane's hand uncurled and lay flat on Saeki's chest, warmth seeping through the wool of Saeki's red turtleneck. They stood like that a while, and Saeki closed his eyes, resting against Bane's broad chest.

Bane's chin nuzzled closer against Saeki's neck, and Saeki could feel Bane's throat and chest rumble faintly as Bane spoke again. "Got you covered, Kou. Always."

"Yeah," Saeki said. He leaned his head back, resting it against Bane's, looking up at the Christmas lights, and then he smiled. "I know."
