Character Information
Character's Name: Genesis Rhapsodos
Character Journal:
apples-n-poetry Fandom: Final Fantasy VII, specifically Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Point Taken from Canon: Pre-canon, prior to Genesis beginning to degenerate and going MIA in Wutai.
Appearance:
Here and
here.
This one too.
Abilities: He's a SOLDIER 1st Class which means that in this world he is a scary, scary person to go up against. He can totally be taken out, but it's not going to be easy.
Being a SOLDIER he's been genetically enhanced with increased speed, strength, stamina, agility, everything-else-ever. He wields a red sword (rapier) with extreme skill and is ridiculously good at his world's magic, or as they call it: Materia. Materia (is magic in what looks like marbles that exists everywhere in his world) can do everything from boosting stats to enhancing weapons to curing injuries or attacking people with various elements. Genesis is very very good with the attack magic. Primarily fire and fire-like attacks. His ultimate attack is one known as ‘Apocalypse’ that is a wave of red-tinted energy. He's also got several ‘
summons’. Notably, he uses Ifrit, Bahamut, and Bahamut Fury.
Genesis is also able to make clones of himself out of people. From where I'm taking him from, he doesn't know that and so isn’t likely to wind up doing that to anyone in Memoria, but it is technically one of his abilities and full disclosure and all of that. He also gains a wing (singular) and can fly later in the game. That might show up in Memoria, but it won't be for a good while. (If at all.)
Weaknesses: As a SOLDIER he can physically take a helluva lot of punishment and keep on going. His weaknesses are mostly mental and emotional. Genesis is distrustful of most peoples' opinions and unlikely to heed what they say if what he thinks doesn't match up with their point of view. He’s dangerously reckless with his own safety and very over-confident. He doesn’t believe that anyone is truly better than he is at anything and if someone does best him, he’ll work until he can beat them just so he can say he has. He’s also quick to anger and slow to cool down, which can definitely be used against him.
He is very introverted when it comes to something bothering him. Very rarely does he confide his own troubles in anyone, preferring to try to handle it all on his own even when he’s being crushed by his problems. He’s utterly implacable-once his mind is made up (in fairness, he can take quite a while to make up his mind) it’s all but impossible to get him to change his opinion on something, even in the face of contrary information or proof that he’s wrong. He doesn’t really believe that he’s deserving of anyone’s love and his bitterly envious of those who he sees as being deserving of it. He doesn’t tend to notice that there are people who care for him the same way as he envies in everyone else.
He is fatalistic. If he believes that something is going to happen then he not only thinks that, he’ll actively sabotage himself into the mindset where the bad thing will happen. He’s got a tendency to brood about things too much and then flare up over pointless crap that’s unrelated and muddies the issue due to his inability to just talk about what is on his mind.
On the physical side of things, from where I’m taking him, he won’t have this weakness at first but as time goes on, he’s likely to develop the inability to heal as his body begins breaking down on him due to his being a failed experiment.
Housing Preferences: If possible, he'd prefer to go wherever Angeal does. But if that's being too specific, he'd prefer some place where there's space to himself.
History:
Wiki! Personality: Genesis is… a very mercurial person. He's very moody due to growing up believing that his parents didn't love him (he was fostered out to them and they really didn't love him at first, though they grew to--he just never figured out that they did love him, eventually) and his default is either broody with a side of resentful or very much arrogantly reckless. If he's cheerful, it's normally because he's thought of something that's not exactly safe or sensible to do. Or because he's reading. He loooves reading and has a fascination with classical epics and poetry in particular. He likes to quote Loveless, a canon bit of poetry/play.
He's smug. Arrogant as all hell, reckless and impulsive. Definitely some of this comes from a childhood spent trying to get the attention of his parents, and some of it is just who he would have been even in the best of circumstances. He can hold a grudge, but can also be distracted from his anger by something interesting. Tends to brood and think things over too much until he can't see anything past his own thoughts. Tends to keep the important crap bottled up and acts out because of that. Competitive. Occasionally vicious and willing to bend the rules to get his way while seeing nothing wrong with that. Introverted in a 'Still Waters Run Deep' sort of way, not an 'I hate people' sort of way. Calculating. He doesn't let many people in. Self-destructive because of that.
Confident. Vain in his own abilities. Resentful. He spent his childhood being stuck with needles and then deemed a failure without ever being told why and that feeds into his impulsiveness, his recklessness, his anger. He's no failure and he's going to show everyone that. Very very proud in his own capabilities. Touchy. Loyal-in his own way. He doesn't let people in, but those who're in, he values deeply, past any reasonable point even going so far as to find one of them to let them know what they are and why, even while he's being hunted to be exterminated. Wistful. A bit of a dreamer-he believes that fate is fate and cannot be changed. But that doesn't stop him from wishing for another story even as he walks along what he thinks is a pre-determined path.
Honest. He doesn't lie. His perspective might be, and is, incredibly skewed at times but everything he says is always the truth as he sees it. Lonely, because he keeps so much of himself wrapped away that he can't reach out to believe people when they seem to think he's got worth. Insecure--he's spent so much of his life dealing with the fact that his parents ruined his life before he was even born to trust them (and, in fact, in the game he kills them without ever realizing that they’d come to love him) and then, with his friends, he leaves without saying anything rather than face them and explain and deal with how they'd react. Determined. Realist. When things start happening, he knows what's possible and what's not and even when he despairs of that, he buckles down and does what he can, from his point of view. And he never gives up walking his own path, even as it leads him to first his destruction, and then his redemption. He is quick to scorn and slow to praise but keeps his sentiments honest so long as people are doing their best. He can't stand those who don't live to their potential.
Character Quote: The world needs a new hero! -- Genesis, to Sephiroth. And from Loveless: 'My friend, the fates are cruel / There are no dreams, no honor remains'
Journal Sample:
[Genesis is not quite sure what to do with the device, but his PHS isn’t working and that’s enough for him to be bored enough to take the time to poke around at it. Besides, he has some complaining to do. When he speaks, his voice is very very dry.]
Is there anywhere in this godforsaken place that has proper apples? Ifrit.
[So it’s a small complaint. He’s allowed to have it. All the apples he’s found here are either red, green, or yellow. Or even some mad combination of the three. Where are the purplish-blue and white apples? Sometimes he thinks that the conundrum with the apples perfectly sums up his current living situation.
Which does not please him. There’s a frustrated sigh and then it cuts off.]
Prose Sample:
The waves lapped at the shoreline.
It was a chilly sort of beautiful, Genesis decided, gazing out over the ocean. The sand and snow under his feet crunched with each step. And yet the ocean was unfrozen. He doubted it ever did freeze entirely.
Was there a cold strong enough to do that? To turn the entire ocean to nothing but a sheet of ice that stretched on to eternity? Unchanging, unchanged, and unaffected.
The wind moved briskly, stirring his hair and setting his coat aflutter and Genesis stood, arms crossed and looking over the ocean. He wondered if the ocean had ever felt heartbreak. That would be enough to turn it to ice entirely. To keep it from ever altering one even tiny iota.
He shook his head, amused at his folly. Well and good enough, he was being foolish. There was time for that, however, as he waited. As he walked, ever closer to the blue, endless waters, there was time enough to think. Being foolish in his thoughts was hardly a new occurrence. Waves lapped at the sand, brushing up against his boots with the grasping caress of the desperate.
A faint smile touched his lips, and he stood as still as a statue, ignoring both the needy water and the playful wind. One moment in an eternity of moments. Was that not always the waiting game?

Anything else? Genesis' character was designed to look like Gackt, as well as being voiced by Gackt. As such, is it okay if I use Gackt as his PB in a few icons?
