I've been sitting here wondering whether he could have been talking about himself there and just let Sam believe the worst, but I'd have to watch it again because I can't remember whether it was left open enough for that to be a possibility.
It was just said so casual and off-hand, it was a really weird moment for me!
A related question: WHY CAN SAM BEHEAD GORDON WITH NOTHING BUT HIS OWN STRENGTH AND A LITTLE BIT OF WIRE, BUT IT TAKES HIM A MILLION CHOPS WITH AN AXE TO GET RID OF PARIS HILTON?
I like to believe it was his anger at Paris for attacking Dean. Or maybe just House of Wax. >.>
t was just said so casual and off-hand, it was a really weird moment for me.
Me too. It also seemed... awkward. Like, can you imagine what the person on the other end of the line said to get that response? Didn't seem natural to me, seemed like a set up for the fight. *shrug*
I like to believe it was his anger at Paris for attacking Dean. Or maybe just House of Wax.
*grin* For sure it was House of Wax. It totally reminded me of Dean beating the crap out of the ghoul in Jump the Shark - don't touch my !
It almost seemed like he was joking around, and that it was meant to be misinterpreted. For half the ep I was waiting for Dean to say, oh, I wasn't talking about you, I meant the turkey I left in the oven! Or just something unrelated. Because then at the end of the ep, even, he was like, neither of us knew what we were doing when we broke the seals. So...then why are you like, Hey Bobby, we know whose fault the apocalypse was! lol! ALMOST LIKE THE VOICEMAIL IN 4x22. Ugh idk, this scene was so wrong for me it will plague me forever. XD
OMG PARIS HILTON IS A BETTER ACTRESS THAN GENEVIEVE.
I laughed, but it's true. I made many excuses - could be the directors, could be the lines they've written for her, the characterization. But, no. If Paris can do it...sorry, Gen.
BUT THE ENDING! WENDIGO WENDIGO WENDIGO. Like I said, S1 vibe. And Dean's apology. And the MUTUAL SEAL-BREAKING FORGIVENESS! (Show: you suck.) Dean acknowledging that killing Lilith seemed like the right thing to do, but the BEST PART (aside from the handing over of the keys) was that it was SO GENUINE. Dean didn't realize he'd been hurting Sam! AND THEN HE TAKES SAM'S OPINION AS AN EQUAL.
Oh, yes, I totally agree. And my porn brain is already imagining all the switch possibilities of their equality, lol. Actually, I totally agree with everything you said. Though I feel I should add... Sam in scrubs, i.e. glorified pajamas? Yes, please. More boys as undercover doctors.
And YES! How did I forget about Sam in scrubs? SO GORGEOUS. How about boys as undercover doctors who have to make out in their scrubs so people don't find out they're not real doctors? IT COULD HAPPEN.
GLEE! In no particular order: TWIN LAPTOPS! SAM SPEAKING SPANISH!
Yes! When the housekeeper started rattling off Spanish, I told my boys, "If Dean and/or Sam starts speaking Spanish, I will EXPLODE!" Because they have to know a little, right? They've lived so many places, they must have picked some up, yes? If only enough to get laid or start a fight? And Dean/SAm speaking Spanish is HOT LIKE THE SUN!
/linguistical geekery
AND WHILE I'VE GOT THE CAPSLOCK GOING: OMG PARIS HILTON IS A BETTER ACTRESS THAN GENEVIEVE. (I'm sorry. I've got nothing against her, really, except for the part where she CAN'T SAY WORDS.)
YES!
BUT THE ENDING! WENDIGO WENDIGO WENDIGO. Like I said, S1 vibe.
AND THEN YOU EXPLODED! Though not literally, I see. Which is a good thing.
Oh, Genevieve. What does it say about your acting that PARIS HILTON puts you to shame? I am perhaps MORE BITTER THAN I SHOULD BE re: the casting of Ruby.
I've been sitting here wondering whether he could have been talking about himself there and just let Sam believe the worst, but I'd have to watch it again because I can't remember whether it was left open enough for that to be a possibility.
It DEFINITELY was - the Denizen called it, saying, "He's talking about himself!" Which would put a different spin on why he was so curt ("you heard what you heard") without even a hint of regret about making Sam feel bad. I'm not saying Dean was talking about himself but it was ambiguous, absolutely. I have to say though, that conversation felt off to me, not just that, but there was a very shortened gap in it - for a moment I thought he was *pretending* to talk to someone, or something odd like that
( ... )
My v. scientific and entirely unresearched theory on Sam's hair was this:
"I feel like when his hair is down, that's OUR SAM. SAMANDDEAN Sam. REAL Sam. And when it's all pushed back, it's not. It's solo!Sam, Lucifer!Sam, unforgiven!Sam."
SOMEDAY, I WILL DO THE RESEARCH. Now that I think about it, though, this week's hair was more transitiony than entirely pushed back. POSSIBLY THIS IS SIGNIFICANT. (Really, IDK.)
See, YES. The whole conversation was weird. The whole scene, really, and I feel like it's probably just like that for convenience; first, the conversation with Bobby to induce the argument, and then the SUPER EXTRA CONVENIENT call re: the case not being over to end the scene.
The second laptop is new. I read a v. sad interpretation of the dual laptops, but I just can't help loving how adorable they are doing synchronized research, and the implication that Dean is not an idiot and is capable of doing research on his own.
THERE MUST BE HUGGING. It'll happen, sooner or later.
I need to listen again to the phone call, beacuse I too thought he was talking about himself and let Sam believe that it was about him on purpose.
ALL this is my stupidly long winded way of saying that I think much of what we saw tonight was about Dean not knowing how to be with Sam anymore. HE WILL FIGURE IT OUT.
Oh, this is so what I was thinking. I was totally watching with my eyes narrowed, thinking Dean I'm onto you, what the hell are you doing? And it makes so much sense, because he's lost his markers with Sam and the only way he knows how to be is how he was before. It was so sad, really. There's hurt in there Dean needs to express. Anyway, considering how Dean jumped with both feet at the mere suggestion that there are other ways to work this out, I think Dean himself was conscious that he was floundering.
The seal break. It turns out I was right :P. No really, it didn't make any sense from a narrative perspective to be a secret and while I'm pissed that they didn't show us that conversation I understand why they did not.
And I don't know, but Sam's been right about cases many times before
You're definitely right about that. I think the argument is valid, though. I'm just struggling with actually remembering it at the moment, because you know me: it's all about Dean! I've never really given it a lot of thought. When my husband gets home, I'll ask him to clarify.
I need to watch it again! I almost don't want to, because I'm happy enough with it, and I fear that I'll like it less on re-watch, but there are definitely a couple of things I need to see again.
