the golden rule
We encourage an open, friendly atmosphere, so be nice to the other players. This will make your stay in the game not only better for yourself, but for others as well. This also means to be courteous and recognize when a player is uncomfortable. We're all here to have fun!
the modline is always open
If any type of issue arises and you can't resolve it yourself, come to the mods. We cannot stress this enough. As mods it's our job to make sure that the game runs smoothly both in the mechanics and through the community. We're here to help and will try to resolve any issue that you might have. god-modding is a no-no
There is no power cap in Aprigen, however that does not mean your character can be all powerful because of it. No matter who your character is, they are no longer in their canon and must therefore follow the world rules of the game. There is no feasible way for characters to manipulate, forcefully escape, take over the network, or do anything that would fall under "game breaking". At least not immediately or on the first try. Taking over the network might be feasible under certain circumstances.
This also means your character cannot do anything to another character without character permission. This means your character cannot suddenly stab someone else and instantly kill them without any warning or pre-talk with the other player. If you have permission, then it's all clear, but you must have that player permission.
This doubles for any actions that might affect the game as a whole. Come to the mods first. More than likely we'll say yes, but it's always good to double check.
meta-gaming is also a no-no
In line with the above god-modding rule, meta-gaming is not allowed. This means OOC knowledge =/= IC knowledge. Characters cannot suddenly become all knowing when there has been no prior sources for information.
make character plots
Okay, so that's not really much of a rule as just a general word of encouragement. While Aprigen does have an overarching plot and mod events that will happen from time to time, we really do want character plots to help shape the game. The actions of your character can drastically change what happens in the game. What we have in mind is not set in stone and are completely open and flexible to what happens in game. Use the aprigen_ooc to your advantage and make plot posts! Have an idea that might involve your character's faction? Put it up! Have a villain muse that wants to take over either a faction or the world? Do it.
We just want to encourage character based plots and events. If there's anything super big that might seriously affect the game or attract the attention of the Eidolons, just send us a message and we'll work it out so that you can have as much freedom as possible.
Just remember, IC actions will result in IC consequences, so be prepared for any repercussions that could happen as a result of certain big scale actions. Again, we highly encourage playerwide communications and have no qualms with such giant character plots. All we ask is for player courtesy.
activity requirement
There will be an activity requirement, but these most likely won't happen until later once the game has been up and running for a good while. In general, you'll need two threads with different characters a month. This might change in the future.

The character limit is five. This might change in the future.
no playercest
The point of the game is to interact with others, so while you are allowed to have more than one character, you are not allowed to play with yourself. If there is ever a case where two of your characters are in a situation where they have to interact, either keep it to a minimum or recruit another player to have a third character so that it's not a strict one-on-one log. Brief interactions and assumed interaction is fine. Just don't go logging with yourself.
two characters per canon
You can only apply for a max of two characters from the same canon, and they must be distantly related to each other to prevent playercest. This means you can apply for Zack and Reno, but you can't apply for Cloud and Zack.
fictional characters only
Only fictional characters or characters based on fiction (such as characters from series that are historical based but still fall under the "fiction" category; ex. Dynasty Warriors) are allowed in the game. Sorry, no real life people are allowed.
AU characters not allowed
Unfortunately we cannot allow any type of alternate universe characters into Aprigen. All characters must be from original canon. However, they can be from any official medium. Webcomics are cool, but not fanfiction.
Let's add some flexibility! AU's are allowed, but only one AU per canon allowed. That means only one AU Dave Strider with one OU Dave Strider. That kind of thing.
OC characters allowed
On the flip side, original characters are allowed. However, we will be looking at any OC applications with a stricter eye than canon applicants. We don't want any Gary Stus or May Sues. PBs will also be acceptable for OC characters.
cross-canon characters allowed
Characters who appear in different canons are allowed so long as they are from distinctively different canons and are radically different. For instance, take Sakura from Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles and Card Captor Sakura. It is possible to have both characters in the game. Though they are based off the same character, they are completely different. The same goes for the characters from the Legend of Zelda series. It is possible to have every version of Link and Zelda in the game.
What is not possible is a character who stays the same throughout two different titled series. For example, Yuuko from xXxHOLiC. Though she appears in Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, she is still the same character in xXxHOLiC.
mature rating warning
While we do not prohibit mature content from the community, we do ask that anything that would be considered M-rated material to be clearly marked, under an LJ-cut, and member-locked.. This is especially so for any sexual content.

We know there are characters who canonly break the fourth wall or could potentially break the fourth wall for other characters, like Konata from Lucky Star. While we do not prohibit such actions, we do ask that you ask for player permission before doing so. Some players might not mind, but others might.
