<< part 4

Six days later

“The causes of the terrible incident that brought the death to two boys traveling towards Busan are still unknown. The police is now questioning the driver of the other car, a father who was traveling with his two children, both of them survived with few wounds. According to the man's words, the other car invaded his lane, making the police think that the driver could be drunk. Drunk driving in Korea has increased of the forty-five percent since last year...”

Minseok stormed out of the room with a scowl, leaving Lu Han alone in the room to tend to the angry red hand shape on his cheek. Yifan chose that moment to arrive with coffee, and even though he eyed Lu Han's face with a wary look, he didn't say anything. Pity, because Lu Han would have been really glad to unleash his anger on him.

The news announcer kept babbling out nonsense about the funeral of the victims, the son of the diplomatic Park and a dancer named Byun Baekhyun. They had barely recognised what remained of their bodies from the flaming wreck. Yifan turned off the television and gave Lu Han his caramel macchiato.

“Minseok,” he shouted towards the other room, “the coffee!”

The answer came in the form of some muttered words that sounded awfully like better starve than accept anything from you, but in the end he grudgingly came back to snatch the paper glass from Yifan's hand, threw daggers at Lu Han like he wanted nothing more than pour the coffee on his head, and ran away again.

Lu Han sighed.

Yifan tried to savour his coffee, but promptly took the cup away with a grimace and a burnt lip.
“I can feel he's already warming up to you,” he said in the end, conversationally.

Lu Han looked murderous, and his friend dared to say no more. The silence stretched, but not in an uncomfortable way.

“They're still looking for them, you know?” Yifan's hands were restless on his lap. No pockets to hide the proof of his turmoil this time. “You didn't fool anyone with the car wreck farce.”

Lu Han sipped his coffee with a cryptic smile, licking the foam away from his upper lip when he finished. “Let them search. If they didn't find them by now, I hardly doubt they'll succeed in the future. Which reminds me, we're lucky they're only looking for them. I gave you direct orders.”

Yifan didn't waver under his gaze.

“Baekhyun should have done that alone.”

“You know very well that he couldn't have. And you know me, I was as careful as possible... I just couldn't let him die.”

In the safety of his new home, the prince of the night sighed. His best friend was an idiot, but what was done was done and in times so dire he needed to trust Yifan more than ever.

He thought of Jongdae's words, or what they could mean for them. Yifan still didn't know anything. He was waiting for the right chance to introduce the subject to him, but it always seemed the wrong moment. There were things that you just couldn't tell Yifan, wounds from the past that had yet to heal, and now it was time to reopen them again.

Yifan seemed lost in his thoughts.

“What is bothering you, my friend?”

“Everything?”

He deemed is coffee cold enough to be drunk, and sipped it cautiously. “But mostly Park and Byun. I don't really understand how did they manage to leave the country. Jinki had men everywhere, in every airport, every port. There is no door his spies aren't watching closely. I'm starting to think that they fucking teleported.”

Lu Han laughed. “I can imagine Baek as a witch, and Chanyeol would be her sturdy helper.”

“This is no joke Han. Wait, you know where they are, right?”

Lu Han smiled his own signature smile, knowing and secretive.

“They're safe,” he said, and very very far from here. “Trust me on this, Fan. I promised Baekhyun that Jinki's men wouldn't have been able to find them, and I plan to keep my word.”

Yifan sighed, but he was relieved. He knew he wouldn't be able to coerce anything else from Lu Han.

“At least they're free. And they're together.”

It seemed to him that Han's smile had lost a lot of its brightness at his words. Right?

“Well, they still owe me a favour.”

He paled. “Han, Han please. Leave them alone.”

“I'm sorry man, but like I told Baekhyun everything comes with a price. He knew his price, and I can't ignore the fact that you helped him, risking to destroy all of my carefully balanced plans. If one day I'll be in need of a hand, I'll come back to collect my debt.”

Yifan didn't answer, but Lu Han had more pressing matters in his own hands.

He had a feeling in his gut that dangerous things were going to happen, and that he was definitely going to see his dear friend Baekhyun again.

Oh, it's not over yet. This has been only the beginning.

“Don’t worry about that, Fanfan, okay? They’re safe now, and they’re very far from here.”

Enjoy your summer vacation, Baekhyun, as long as you can. And stay safe, for me.

Now

Baekhyun stirs, following the warmth through the sheets until he finds Chanyeol's arm. He snuggles under it, resting his head on Chanyeol's chest, smiling when he feels Chanyeol squirm. “You're cold.”

He wants to answer but you're warm. He whimpers and digs his nose in Chanyeol's skin. The world trembles under him as Chanyeol tries to escape the tickling sensation, failing to escape Baekhyun and the sheets' deathly hold.

He blindly wraps himself around Chanyeol, intertwining their legs and humming.

“I would've never pegged you for the clingy type, but lately you're worse than ivy.”

Baekhyun refuses to open his eyes, not even when Chanyeol starts to poke his cheek. He's nothing but expecting the low blow towards his neck, and when Chanyeol goes there he plants pointy nails on his hips with vengeance.

Chanyeol screeches, struggling to revert their position, but the sheets cocoon limit his movements one more time and he falls, dragging Baekhyun down with him in an even more uncoordinated mess.

That's when a loud screech from outside interrupts them, causing the two bodies on the bed to freeze. They listen for a few minutes, silent and tense ready to snap, every sense on edge. Slowly the adrenaline fades, Chanyeol commenting with a nervous, "That was probably someone who went a little heavy on the brakes". The uneasiness in his voice is evident, but his hands has tightened their hold on Baekhyun's frame and that helps him to relax, at least.

His drowsiness has disappeared, washed away in a few moments, so he opens his eyes zooming on Chanyeol's face, framed by messy jet black hair.

It brings back memories. Chanyeol hasn't had black hair since middle school. The other boy must be able to feel the softness in his eyes, because he leans towards him until their forehead are touching. Baekhyun doesn't flinch, nor he tells him to fuck off. The Baekhyun of six weeks ago would have trashed and tried to escape from Chanyeol's hold.

The Baekhyun in the present is tired of fighting, tired of running, tired of everything. He only wants to stay in bed and bask on Chanyeol's presence. They are dead to the world, only Lu Han knows their current location, and with a bounty on their heads and half of the criminal world of Korea looking for them, they can't even go out and have fun. They have decided to lay down for a little while, staying at home and eating Chinese takeout. They're trapped in the house. And yet, he has never felt more free.

Chanyeol kisses him.

“I love you,” he whispers. “I love you too,” is his answer. It feels weak, as if those three little words can't possibly carry such a huge meaning within them; and late, because he made Chanyeol wait too long for so little but he still feels Chanyeol's smile on his neck.

“I've waited so much for you to answer like that.”

“I've been waiting since forever, Chanyeol.”

And it's true, he's been in love with Chanyeol for forever.

The constant, furious nagging of his heart at the corner of conscience had become a part of him as much as his hands or eyes could have been. Except that, as dramatic as it sounds, and Baekhyun has always had a knack for being a drama queen he couldn't have cut it off the way you cut your own hand to save the rest of the arm. He still has trouble adjusting to the change, clings to Chanyeol too much, in the irrational fear of waking up and finding it has been all but one wonderful dream.

“I've waited for you so much it wasn't waiting anymore.”

“It's not fair,” pouts Chanyeol, “I've wasted too much time. I was waiting too, you know, waiting to realize I've been waiting for you too.”

“This makes no sense Chanyeol.”

“Yes, it does.”

“Silly.”

Chanyeol's hands dances on his sides, threatening revenge for the name-calling.

He buries himself on welcoming warmth once again, pulling the covers over his head and whining. The room is filled with laughter. Chanyeol is there, a solid presence.

“I don't know the future Chanyeol, and we made one too many stupid mistakes in the past.”

Chanyeol nods. “But we're here now, right?”

“Yeah,” he says, “now it's all we have.”

Outside, drowned in the dusty, loud hell of Seoul's car traffic, the Lu Building looms over the city, they can see him from their window, a lonely tower and a bad omen.

Chanyeol closes the curtains. “Who votes to stay in bed all day?”

When he turns towards Baekhyun the other boy has already conquered all bed, spreading like a lazy starfish and taking more space than it should be possible. Chanyeol charges and jumps over him, no warning. They fall together.

Now is ours.

A/N: ok this gonna be long guys but bear with me a little.
-First of all I want to thank a lot of people. MartaH, who held my hand through all of this. Seriously, this fic wouldn't exist without her kind words, I didn't write a single sentence without her knowing and I'm surprised she never NEVER told me to fuck off. This fic belongs to her, she took it away from me because I was too mean towards this poor, innocent baby. Giulia, who kindly offered me to beta this monster but was in the middle of exams and life and couldn't do it, but encouraged me a lot and she's the cutest cutie of the world. Cat, for the fucktastic rec she threw on me really girl you don't know how happy it made me. Jennica, Claudia e Ana for being the wonderful baekyeol shippers they are. And Evrim, who probably doesn't know but she's the reason why this fic isn't a smut oneshot but this enormous thing.
And, last but not least, Baekhyun, who is my dearest dear. Today is your birthday, so happy bday bby ♥
-I obviously got my inspiration from Troublemaker's Now but also from Black Lab's Weightless.
-I wrote this fic while I was living and working in Tokyo. I typed it on my phone in the subway, on my way to and back from work, in my tiny little room. I poured a lot of myself in this fic, and maybe that's why I didn't post it for months. It's slightly different from my usual style, but it's my babe.
-It's unbetaed, like said, and probably full of typos, but it's really late and tomorrow I have an early appointment with the doctor and I'll probably be out for the entire day, so I'm posting it now. Hopefully, Giulia will help me with it once she finishes with midterms XD
Thanks for reading ♥
