So I am just back from my trip to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica! It was sooo much fun. The weather was gorgeous and I met so many nice people! I think he should have told his girlfriend (even if it would upset her). Hiding the truth just leads to more problems down the road. If there relationship is such that he isn't comfortable telling her something, they need to work things out.

I'm not saying he's a bad guy for hiding the truth. It sounds like it was a very innocent and harmless omission. Still, if you can't be honest with someone you love, then there's a problem that one or the other person needs to work through. It sounds like she might be insecure, and that probably bugs him a lot. It might be a nice gesture if he promised not to knowingly put himself into a situation where he'd being hanging around his ex, or perhaps talk to his ex and be frank with how her presence effects things. If she isn't totally psycho she should understand.

Anyway, just my opinion of course.
