Since this fall I've been enrolled in a Master's degree program that is an "accelerated" course, which means it's been really intense. Whether it's friends or family, someone is bound to be put out by any endeavor or life change. I wish I could say it got better and people got more understanding but they didn't. I just got a thicker skin and they got used to me prioritizing my needs and education. If they couldn't accommodate me, then I wouldn't work so hard to go overboard for them. Besides, if they're not paying for it, they lose stakeholder rights anyway.
Also, there's nothing preventing you from involving them, y'know? "Hey, I really want to attend the party later. Would you watch Sophie for a few hours so I can get ( ... )
