Since this fall I've been enrolled in a Master's degree program that is an "accelerated" course, which means it's been really intense. Balancing school with a full time job and full time mommy-hood requires a lot of juggling. But so far it's been good. Unfortunately I had the same thing happen to me all throughout grad school. I got passed up for plans and had to break plans because I had papers or studying. My ex-husband booked a solo vacation to a place he'd always promised to go to with me because he couldn't wait 5 days until my quarter was finished. He had no reason to book so early, he was just that selfish about his own needs. That's when I realized I needed to be just as selfish about my own.

Whether it's friends or family, someone is bound to be put out by any endeavor or life change. I wish I could say it got better and people got more understanding but they didn't. I just got a thicker skin and they got used to me prioritizing my needs and education. If they couldn't accommodate me, then I wouldn't work so hard to go overboard for them. Besides, if they're not paying for it, they lose stakeholder rights anyway.

Also, there's nothing preventing you from involving them, y'know? "Hey, I really want to attend the party later. Would you watch Sophie for a few hours so I can get ( ... )
