howtheduck, you are doing a wonderful job providing what Lynn doesn't bother to--namely a context for all these flashbacks. I especially enjoyed today's, with Mike sharing the Elly-slop story to get his children not to complain about the ever-present carrot coins. :)

Thanks. It was a mainly a self-defense mechanism. The idea that Elly would be rattling off all these stories to Connie Poirier over her garden, is not nearly as much fun.
Repetion of Liz-stories loveaprilp_katjeJuly 3 2008, 15:30:28 UTC
howtheduck, the meta references fill me with the happy. Especially this:
This is why, when Elizabeth had her problems with her zits when she was a teenager, you observed her and learned nothing; so that when you had your problem with your zits you did almost the exact same thing she did, as if someone were repeating a story almost verbatim with 2 different characters.
::snerk:
The reference to April possibly favoring one animal, based upon Liz's history as a teacher, was also hilarious. :)

If Lynn ever told April in vet school stories, we know April would favour one animal, and it would be an animal with a troublesome personality. She already did it with Tawny the troublesome horse in Winnipeg.

Yes, this is what came to my mind, too. I guess there's some comfort in knowing that Lynn plans to end the strip before April has a chance to get to that point.
I cannot tell you how happy I am that you opted not to go along with Lynn Johnston that the ghost who appeared in the strip was Grandma Marian. bwross suggested that it was the ghost of George Stibbs’ wife, which would have been fun, but I can definitely work with Emma Sue Jenkins.

Thanks, howtheduck. I hadn't even thought about Mrs. Stibbs, but I imagine her spirit would have been more malevolent. The ghost-grandma in today's strip is so NOT-Marian, I just couldn't imagine accepting her as Marian's spirit!
