Love for old-strip referencesaprilp_katjeAugust 10 2008, 15:58:35 UTC
howtheduck, I've thoroughly enjoyed your little references to old strips--such as Candace allowing others to do all the work on group projects. That was so fitting with the way she suddenly showed up as a bridesmaid without having been in that planning strip. It's almost as if 60-year-old in Corbeil suddenly remembered that Candace ought to be a bridesmaid, and.... Wait a minute, there's no "almost." ;)

I was actually shocked that Candace showed up as a bridesmaid, after she skipped Shawna-Marie's wedding, she didn't show up at the planning strip, and her dialogue with Liz over big weddings was that she wouldn't do one. That old story with Dawn and Candace and the school project came to mind, and it worked out pretty well as an explanation for Candace's sudden appearance.
A lot of this last week was explanations for the enormous plot holes Lynn has been leaving, which actually fits the purpose for April's Real Blog pretty well.
For example, April's seeing the future for the wedding worked astonishingly well with today's strip jumping back a few weeks before the wedding. Congratulations for foreseeing that inconsistency with Lynn's writing.
& don't forget Thérèse lovehowtheduckAugust 13 2008, 15:19:05 UTC
I enjoyed your (April's) rant on the Anthony and Gordon conversation where you inserted Thérèse comparisons the whole way. The conversation actually made more sense that way. It was pretty unintelligible in the strip.
Jeremy's train talkaprilp_katjeAugust 14 2008, 01:31:54 UTC
howtheduck, you completely cracked me up with this:
u kinda stopped wut we were doin’ cuz i kept sayin’ “trains goin’ in the tunnel. train’s goin’ outa the tunnel.” ovah & ovah again. then wen u got mad @me cuz i wudn’t stop, i sed, “uh oh, the tunnel’s mad. i better get my toolkit, cuz u look like u wanna socket 2 me. u look wrench-corous, like rancorous, get it?”
Re: Jeremy's train talkhowtheduckAugust 14 2008, 23:46:23 UTC
I am so glad you fed me the bit about Jeremy Jones taking on John Patterson characteristics. That was a classic setup. Just perfect.
Of course the pervert in me immediately realized that April would be seriously disturbed by intimate moments with her father. I am happy you enjoyed it.
Re: Dialogue LovehowtheduckAugust 14 2008, 23:50:33 UTC
I was trying to come up with a reason why Meredith would be with Liz and the bridal party by herself and yet still be back with Deanna and the other kids later on. I also wanted to touch on the reason why Liz was not having a moment with little Francie. So, I channeled your version of Liz a little, and it actually filled a Lynn Johnston plot hole.
Lynn Johnston is planning to move to Dundas? I can't tell if that's funny or if it's true, because I actually found references to Lynn Johnston and Dundas going through an internet search. The guy who wrote April's birthday song, apparently lives in Dundas. And there was a book on leaving home, with illustrations by Lynn Johnston, and the author of the book lives in Dundas.
Regardless, the idea that Duncan Anderson would be staying in Dundas tracking the "witch" is pretty funny.

Thanks for the love!
I haven't heard that LJ is planning to return to Dundas, but it wouldn't surprise me if she did now that she's separated and semi-retired. That's where her heart lies. Milborough is based on Dundas, even if she won't admit it. And even though she's been gone from Dundas for years, she maintains the friendships and other relationships she made when she was living in Dundas. I can't see anything to keep her in North Bay (other than the inconvenience of relocating her business.)

Thanks--I enjoyed imagining Dee telling the story of today's strip during the shower. Glad you set that up! :)

Elizabeth: I don’t keep with that kind of stuff. Maybe the French grow faster than regular kids.
Beatrice: Don’t you have French children in your class where you teach?
Elizabeth: How would I know?
That pretty much sums up Liz's attitude. :)
