I mentioned the "you could be common-law married soon" theory to my parents, and, while it had never occured to my mom, my dad's lawyer had brought it up, apparently.

My father's perspective, despite the fact that they live as one household and not as roommates, and that most of the people here who know or work with them *don't know* that they're divorced and my parents would like to keep it that way...

is that they have a piece of paper that *says* they're not married (the divorce papers), so therefore they can't be defined as common-law married. But he acknowledges it could be an interesting legal conundrum.
I'm plugging my ears and going "LA LA LA" on any other aspects of this issue, particularly now that I'm here. :)
