Yearly list-thingie

How many years have I done this one? It must be at least half a dozen by now.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Hmmmm.....attend a fan convention? Received a settlement? (If you're new-ish around here: I got in a bicycle accident in 2010. I wrote about it here. I got some money out of it this year; nothing huge.) Used up all the extensions on unemployment?

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
LOLOL Not most of them. Most of my resolutions were bike-related and I faaaaailed at all but one: I did get a mixte city bike with generator lighting. But I bought it instead of building it from a vintage frame and fork because I got such a good deal on the bike itself. Instead of posting more to my bike blog I pretty much abandoned it. I didn't ride a 200k.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but three announced they were pregnant and due in July.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
Huh. I didn't even go to Vancouver BC this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A job. I am so tired of saying this. *sigh*

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 1st. Shawn was out of town, and I wanted to watch something, and I had access to Netflix, and I heard this show Sherlock is good...

Going to Sherlock Seattle, as well.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Errrr. I really didn't accomplish much this year. Honestly if it weren't for fandom stuff I think I'd be way more depressed, although it's possible I'm using fandom stuff to keep from doing anything else. FUCK that is depressing. Um... I knit a 13-foot scarf. People seem to find that impressive. (It's really not. It was on US8's in garter stitch and I was following a pattern to get it like the one Tom Baker wore. 95% of it was mindless.)

9. What was your biggest failure?
I gotta be honest, I have kind of failed at life this year. I haven't looked for work as much as I should have, which means I've been living on my settlement from my bike crash a few years ago. I really didn't want to do that. I've been bad with my money. I haven't done much to improve my life. I'm going to move to the next questions before I feel worse.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing major. Couple of colds. Some depression, though it hasn't been bad enough to put me back on Wellbutrin. Yet. ....this question isn't helping.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The new bicycle, the Linus mixte 3-speed with generator lighting. Extremely close seconds: the yarn for my Doctor Who scarf, and the hotel/con membership for Sherlock Seattle.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends, of course.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Me?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
SHERLOCK AND DOCTOR WHO HOLY FUCK. Anything related to BBC Sherlock. Especially the convention in Seattle, when I hardly slept for three days in anticipation of meeting my fave fanfiction author and being in the same space as 250 people as addicted to the show/fandom as I am, holy shit y'all.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
I don't even know. Um. A couple of Skrillex songs? That Gotye song? (I didn't even hear that one that often 'cause I live in a happy little cave.)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Probably sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, and it's pissing me off
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Looking for a goddamn job, being a Real Adult.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Beating myself up, but clearly I'm still on a roll. Eating huge piles of noodles.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
I went to my parents' house sans Shawn because he had work. I got home pretty late that night because we broke in my brother's new box of Cards Against Humanity. My mom kicked our asses.

21. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I stayed in love. I had several crushes on people I know in real life. (Resisting the urge to make this answer fandom-related....)

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite tv program?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH guess. Hilariously, in previous years I usually drew a blank here, because I almost never watch TV. Now that I've watched a couple of shows people ask if I watch ______ and I'm always like, uh, see, I don't actually watch TV much as a rule. I watch, like, two shows. As of next year it will be three because I plan to get started on Supernatural.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I hardly ever hate anyone.

25. What was the best book you read?
I'm going to mentally change "book" to "long written material" and say A Cure for Boredom.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
M.I.A., years after everyone else figured it out.

27. What did you want and get?
A mixte city bike. A smartphone!

28. What did you want and not get?
A touring bike that fits.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I think I saw mebbe two new-to-me movies in the theater this year: Moonrise Kingdom and The Hobbit. I liked both of them. I've seen a handful of movies/miniseries Benedict Cumberbatch was in via the internet that were good.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I don't even remember. That's fucking sad. I didn't make a post about it, whatever it was.

Oh, now I remember. Nickey R. was in town and I went to a bar to see her. I got some great photos taken via photobooth and Sherrie bought me tequila. I turned 33.

31. What is one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Being employed. Doing things I was supposed to do.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Heh. Half-assed Lolita on a bicycle? Although it's quickly becoming fangirl on a bicycle, after modifying my coat to make it more like Sherlock's and then wearing either something close to his scarf, or the Fourth Doctor's scarf, pretty much everywhere. (Oh god, the silly fandom shirts I drool over on redbubble.)

I have worn skirts more often than I used to, which I credit to a black Meta skirt I got secondhand on LJ. It goes with damn near everything and is cute with or without a petticoat. I also bought a pair of Lululemon cycling pants that aren't all that flattering but they're comfy as hell. Also, ass-tastic.

33. What kept you sane?
Friends, fandom, Shawn, having numerous occasions to regularly get out of the house, riding my bicycle, Adderall.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
In previous years I have looked at this question and just kinda shrugged. This year, Benedict Cumberbatch. I'm not sure I've ever fancied a celebrity as much as I fancy him. Seeing some pictures of him is part of why I started watching Sherlock and what sent me running towards the slash for it. Hnnnng oh god. He's one of the sexiest people ever, a fantastic actor, and (from what I hear) a really nice guy. He's kind to his fans and does charity fundraisers. But, let's be honest, I just desperately want to kiss his face and get in his pants.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
I dunno. I suppose the election.

36. Who did you miss?
There are a lot of friends I don't see often enough, and that's just the ones I've actually met.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
OH GOOD LORD. I'm terrified if I start making a list I will leave out someone important. But: I met some fantastic people through the Sherlock fandom, both online and in person, including Penny and Cellar Door and pennswoods and emmagrant01 I met glowing_fish in person finally and found him to be funny and fun to talk to. I met blackdwarv in person and found him funny and geeky, and now we go to Doctor Who trivia almost every week and chat at ridiculous hours.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012?
No idea.
