I was (GENTLY!) cleaning them with a handkerchief. Must be some serious metal fatigue - if you look closely, you'll see that the frame just snapped, and believe me, it was under very little pressure.
Oh dear. This is not good. Depending on what they're made of they should be solderable (it's only titanium frames that can't be soldered). Trust me, I used to work in my optician's. Hope you have a spare pair...
I have no idea what they're made of, but of course the usual high-street opticians don't do repairs. (Specsavers were particularly helpful - "did you get this from us? no? can't help you, go away") but one of them recommended a place that does proper repairs - but of course it's not open on Saturdays.
Yes, I have a spare pair, unfortunately they're old enough that my eyesight with these is probably about the same as most people I know *without* their glasses. I can see my laptop screen well enough at normal laptop working distance, but not much further than that. Things start getting seriously fuzzy about two/three metres away, WITH the spare glasses.
How long have you had them? If it's anything more than a couple of years, that's to be expected; frames don't have long design lifespans. Folks like me are serious statistical outliers - since stabilising, my average lifespan has been about 2.5 years, and it's only that low because I replaced one pair after six months with a better pair. The average person will lose or break their glasses within a year.
Hmm, I suspect this may be different by country or something. I've had that frame for well over two years, true; the lenses were replaced about four months ago (higher prescription) - so if the frame wasn't made to last I'd expect the optician would've tried to sell me a new one at that point, which they didn't, at all. It might make a difference that it was probably not a cheap frame (I can't remember), as my dad's insurance cover is fairly generous about that sort of thing.

I just stepped on mine a week ago - surprisingly, they were flexible enough to survive.
