[adphi]Reunion and Reunion Food?

May 28, 2008 10:20

Now that we've all had a few days to catch up on sleep, I wanted to know what people on my f-list that attended Reunion Festivities thought of the goings-on. I figured I'd tag you guys on this first because you'll seek to both be helpful to me, and ensure that Homecoming is equally, if not more, awesome ( Read more... )

1. In general i thought the food was great -- better than usual, even! So understand that the following complaints are really minor things... The pasta in the pasta salad was a tad underdone, the garden salad was a tad over-dressed (but i really liked having a dressed salad rather than jugs of dressing next to the greens) and i loved that it had lots of basil!

The chicken was huge! I can't imagine anyone finished a whole breast. (I only took 1/2 and i still didn't finish it!) I think they could have saved lots of money and cut down on waste by cutting the chicken in half ( ... )

1. I heard several people comment on the lack of breadstuffs, at either the table, or at the buffet line.

The chicken was huge, but lots of people took 1, and came back. Some of the later breasts were also much smaller, so I'll check with the chef.

2. If I said it was because we wanted to do the double line, meaning we had no room for plates at the line, would that make more sense?

3. Good, I always worry about the wait.

4. Yeah, Sunday lunch.

5. Good to know.

6. I like it to. I heard rumblings, and wanted to hear clearer reasoning.

1. Wow, really? People ate more than one of those breasts? Impressive. I couldn't. :-) Not after i'd filled up on all the other stuff -- which really was very good. I forgot to mention above, but the mashed potatoes were extra yummy! :-) And i liked the pasta salad option for vegitarians (or non vegitarians like me, who don't actually like meat all that much).

2. Hah. Yeah, i figured that was it. It was still kinda awkward, though.

4. Well, Sunday lunch was fine, though nothing exciting. There were a few little snags (plates, mayo, etc), but that wasn't a big deal. And i liked the addition of tasty cheeses.

6. Well, i'm just one person. (Note that i rarely actually play board games -- i just use the board game time for the aforementioned low key hanging out.) Also, fireplace time is a must in the fall!

6. Oh definitely (unless it ends up being a terribly hot October, as Homecoming is rather early this year). I think I'll get stuff for s'mores.

Would you have been ok with bone-in chicken?

well, personally i really don't like bone-in chicken. i'd have skipped it and gone veggie instead. but, then again, i'm weird when it comes to chicken. i don't actually like it that much and bones tend to increase the chicken-y flavor (i also don't like dark meat much, for the same reason). also, i don't like having to cut around them...

6. me too.

I believe the fancy napkins were also able to work because they had the dinner plate base (I could be mistaken).

How about bone-in chicken?

Jon's desserts were the one part of his cooking where I agreed with everyone else. This cobbler felt, well, cobbled.

bone-in is mostly fine, but is harder to eat. ::shrugs::

oh, right! i forgot about desserts. they were mildly dissapointing. i don't really like chocolate (i know, i'm nuts) so i just took cobbler and the top waaay underdone -- i actually got a big chunck of raw butter and flour, which was less than good. but everything else was so tasty and i was so full that i barely noticed.

General agreement with Julie and Peggy -- chicken was huge (not that this is a bad thing, mind you), buffet style is just fine, it was weird to have to carry your plate over, etc. The mashed potatoes were especially tasty.

Kathleen was very enthused about the vegetarian option. All too often (read: every other banquet we've had), chefs take big slabs of tofu and put them in sauce. The thing about tofu, though, is that it's basically flavorless, so only the outside absorbs any flavor, and there's a big thick layer of bland tofu in the middle. By contrast, the tofu this year was smaller chunks, meaning they were tasty throughout. For this reason alone I'm sure she'd vote for bringing this chef back.

this chef also happens to be (mostly) vegetarian himself, so that may have helped on the tofu note :)

I wonder how much it affected the meat, if at all. It might have been because I was one of the last people to eat, but my chicken, despite swimming in jus, was bone dry.

well, that's why i said mostly vegetarian- he samples/tastes/checks/whatever the meat dishes, so i don't think that'd be as much an issue in this case.

5. I think the small cups, aside from looking nicer than the solo cups, are also helpful by reducing massive alcohol consumption really early.
6. What Alpha Delt could you possibly have heard grumbling about board games?!

6. The crazy few that prefer doing other stuff. I was just checking, I love board games.

do you think bone-in chicken would have been better?

I think a mixture of breasts, thighs and legs would probably end up being better. Allows picky people to have their breasts, and people with smaller appetites to choose the smaller bone-in pieces.
