I am astounded whenever I hear of any organisation of more than 4 people that isn't dysfunctional. People are messy creatures.

I guess so. But zero to dysfunctionality (as in almost crying frustration) in 22 minutes?

It's impressive, but if the purpose of the exercise was to break them then that's plenty of time. Was it designed for failure?

The exercise apparently (nearly) always results in the same sorts of results.

But if you know what the exercise is, kinda like Fight Club, it *so* doesn't have to fail, or break people.

It's all about something oddly like group-think but worse - just like many relationships recapitulate bad relationships of the past, the system of failure is not on the 3 A4s, but in the heads of *all* the participants. And even if one or two get it, they can't subvert all the unthinking desire of all the rest to create a really fucked up situation.

There is no intervention from convenors or coordinators. The participants self-organise to fail.

turned into a caricature of every dysfunctional organisation I've ever experienced in two very quick hours

Indeed :-) I often wonder how they comeup with that list of good places to work that you see sometimes :-)

Looking forward to seeing you when you are here! Safe travels!
