The Adventures of Me, and my quilting!

Apr 05, 2011 01:55

Man, I'm starting to lose it for witty, catchy title things. Bah, all the same, it's true: I've finally got more quilting pictures~

To start off, I got my Pizza box back tonight (well, yesterday, technically, but whatev) as well as my friendship blocks! Yay! -cheers-

Ah, this is gonna be seriously picture heavy, soooo...

Alright, so to start off, we'll go with my friendship blocks:

These are all the blocks I've gotten so far. There's 16 of them, but one of them is one I made, so it doesn't count. But that's just for this month. I'll probably have a couple more next month, so who knows what the final count is. I have at least one coming :3

What I'm doing with these, is I'm going to put a boarder around them, with a nine patch in the corners (a nine patch being exactly like it sounds: nine squares sewn together into another square) I'm thinking an olive-moss-lime green something or other maybe 2-2 1/2 inches wide. or maybe 3, so that the nine patch is easy. Who knows. I'll figure it out later when I can look at my stash.

So, these are the two that I showed the group as an example, so you can see why I got such varied blocks. I'm really happy with all the blocks that I got, and I think I even got enough to do two somethings!

These are the ones, I think, that I'm going to stick to for the main quilt. It's a gift for my mom so I want it to look really nice. I'll probably end up making a couple more blocks for size, but we'll see how it turns out. I might just be able to get away with large sashing (that's the boarders, in quilt-speak) between them.

This, is my pizza box~! As soon as I figured out what I needed, I knew I needed to do sunflowers, so I actually went out and picked up a sunflower fabric for this. I'm so very happy with how everything turned out~ At the meeting today/yesterday, everyone was around showing theirs and seeing how everyone else's turned out. They were all so beautiful and so varied! I was so impressed :3

These are just close ups of the specific sections of the quilt. I think my favorite is the sunburst, just because it's so perfect and I love the bright orange of the sun. But otherwise, I'm just so happy with how well it turned out~ It's amazing because when I hold it, I can almost feel the work and love that went into each block. It's so amazing. I'm so happy <3

Last thing, is that I'm finally getting somewhere with the quilting on my brother's quilt. It's amazing how easy it is now that I'm used to quilting. I still would prefer not to quilt it, but I can do it. And it's turning out so well!
So, I guess I haven't shown what I've been doing. What that is, is that you take the quilt top, which is the part in the picture, the top of the quilt, and you make a backing (or have enough fabric, though it's hard to find one piece of fabric when you get into the bigger sizes of quilts) and then you sandwich a layer of quilters batting between it. Then, what we did since we don't have an actual quilting room, is we taped it to the dining room table, stretched it so there wasn't any wrinkles, placed the batting, placed the top, and then safety pinned the entire thing together so that it wouldn't move. Then you go in and draw on what kind of design you want to quilt.

I didn't want anything crazy since it was my first time quilting, so as you might be able to see I just did a cross pattern. I'm almost half way done quilting, so the edge diamonds aren't actually quilted in, just half of it. All the same, I think it'll look pretty cool when it's done. Oh, also, I'm like, 99.9% positive that the white pencil washes out. I think we used quilting pencils which are used just for this so they wash out and leave a beautiful quilt.

This is what the back looks like. The muslin wasn't quite wide enough for the quilt so I quick sewed the stripe down the middle with the strips I had previously cut out from the quilt top. I think it's pretty cool, though it doesn't quite match up with the quilting. All the same, I don't particularly care.

And that's kind of what it'll look like on the back after I finish quilting, only there'll be diamonds around the squares. After I finish quilting though, I have to bind it, which is gonna be done by hand, so I'll be watching a few movies.
So, I suppose if anyone has any movies they think I should watch (I have netflix, so I've got quite a bit of choice) or I might just finish Gurren Lagann. Anyway, I'm excited for the binding~

So, sorry about the massive picture spam, but I just couldn't help myself~ And I'm far too tired to spell/grammar/stupidity-check this since it's like, 2 in the morning and I have to work tomorrow.

I'm an idiot sometimes.
Goodnight. -passes out-
