Be careful what you wish for?

Has anyone else been reading the new NY Times blog being written by Dr. Olivia Judson? I'm actually pretty pleased with it, but it has made me return to my thoughts about science education, journalism, and just plain education in modern America.

Actually, most people I know had decent science education, but it was just far, far too long ago to remember basically ANY of it if they haven't had reason to use it again. I can understand that - I can't remember half the things I learned in classes I took just a few years ago, and supposedly I AM still using a lot of that information. These things are forgotten very quickly - especially by people who weren't all that interested in the subject in the first place
