Update to HRT or not to HRT

I finally got to the gynecologist after canceling the first appointment (it was the week of my mother's first "episode"). The GYN put me on a low dose birth control pill. I actually dropped almost 10 pounds after going on a low dose birth control pill this past summer. I'm not kidding -- the weight fell off -- and I'm not overweight, so I don't have a lot to lose. I think the reasoning was that hormones were really f***ing with my body big time before I went on it, and once I got that under control, my body just sort of regulated itself... Also I had heard that the lower the dose, the less likely is weight gain...

In looking at the enclosed literature, it appears that water retension is a potential side effect. What I had in the past was a weight gain that included my breasts getting larger -- what I don't want now! So hopefully my story will be similar to yours.

I suspect I'm tottering on the edge of menopause too. I'd been on a progesterone only pill for quite a few years - I didn't have periods at all unless I missed taking a pill - it was fantastic. :) The last time I missed one, I just stopped taking them to see what was going on down there. :) I've had two rather pathetic periods since then but nothing at all since the beginning of Jan ( ... )

Thanks -- and yes, the soy does seem to help some people. Black cohosh is another natural option, but I couldn't take it.
