Several years ago when my kitties turned 1, I threw then a great big party, complete with chocolate cake, strawberries, and champagne. And catnip. And tuna. They received lots of fun toys.

My friends STILL give me grief over this. "Oh my god, I can't believe you had a party for your cats!"

Stupid friends.

I think your party for Frodo was a brilliant idea. The cake was fantastic. His guests were, clearly, special friends. And they all seem to be having a very good time.

Only those of us who are truly blessed know what is truly important.

Happy Birthday, Frodo!

Hani, we have an iguana keepers group for the mid-Atlantic, which encompasses friends from NJ down to the DC area. We used to be a pretty large group -- at one of our early p-ig-nics, we had 18 lizards wandering around the house -- but now we've dwindled down to about 6 people (and 4 iguanas and the chuckwalla) who are still in the area and still want to get together from time to time. Our house is sort of an in-between location, so we've hosted the party the last few years. And this year, we turned the event into Frodo's birthday party. The number 18 in the Jewish religion is special (e.g., "L'chaim!") so that even made it more auspicious. And considering some of the ailments that Frodo has had, there were definitely times I didn't think he'd make it this far. As you can see from the picture, he's a little bit spastic now and doesn't move around too well. But he's still eating and loving life, so that's good enough for me ( ... )
