Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
I think in canon Alfred is about 5' 10". I'm not quite sure, so don't quote me on that! He looks thin, if not slim, but he has ridiculous strength.
2. How old is he?
234! But he looks like he's 19, the bastard!
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
When Alfred sits, it's more of a sprawl. He's like a cat in that for a relatively small body, he takes up A LOT of room! When he is standing, Alfred has much better posture. He holds himself with confidence.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Alfred is so fit that he has no idea what the hell a cold is. Seriously. He tried to cure England's cold by putting a hamburger on his head.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
In head canon, he's a bit of a klutz. Other than those moments, he walks surefooted and fluid. There is no such thing as grace with Alfred F. Jones.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Now, this is actually going to be pretty interesting. Although physically attractive to other people, Alfred sees himself as...nothing special. He thinks that he's not good-looking, but not so horrible the mirror breaks. Alfred does NOT have high self-esteem in his looks. This arises from the fact that so many people bitch and hate America, even his own people.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He's light, but tans easily because in head canon he also represents the Native American tribes as a whole.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
His hair is a caramel gold, in my opinion. It's soft and silky, short, and there's Nantucket, his cowlick. I shit you not, it's called Nantucket.
9. What color are his eyes?
His eyes are a brilliant sky blue that are always cheerful. Well, almost always cheerful.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
HE'S SO SKINNY AND YET HE CAN CARRY AROUND TWO HEAVY-DUTY TRUCKS WITHOUT BLINKING. Other than that, he also has scars that represent different points in his past. For example, around his middle he has a scar that almost completely cuts him in half. At the corner of his eyes there are small scars that represent the Trail of Tears. Around his neck is a scar that he actually hides, and it represents the Salem Witch Trials. These are just some examples as there are a LOT more.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
His shoulders, arms, and the small of his back are his chief tension areas. Oh, and his neck, too.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He is so casual it's a wonder the politicians haven't cast him out. Even his suits have a casual air about them. Alfred hates wearing suits, and his clothing varies in style and color.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Alfred always chooses clothes he's comfortable in. His shirts are either baggy, or they fit just right. His pants/shorts are never baggy and always fit him nicely. In head canon, he has some clothes hidden away that accentuate his features in all the right ways.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
He wears suits. As casual as he's allowed.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers~
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Psh, Eric Vale. That's all I'll say.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Alfred is LOUDANDFAST (lol that's what England said *shot*). He talks very easily, although it's not always...smart.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
He's just an American. However, in head canon, when he gets excited he picks up a Boston accent, but when lethargic he starts using his Southern. Also, when he's being a Southern gentleman he will use a light accent.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Some Spanish, some Italian, some German, some Polish, fluent in ASL, Creole, and English, duh. The Italian, German, and Polish come from the immigrants in early colonial times. He also knows Russian because of the Cold War, and even today keeps up to date on the dialect. Alfred is also fluent in Native American, though he tends to favor Cherokee and Apache.
He is currently learning Arabic.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
If somebody speaks Spanish to him, he's going to try speaking it back, and that's true for all languages he knows.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Usually, Alfred is a guy who can improvise like nobody's business. When he's caught off-guard, he has to actually think about what he wants to say.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
I wouldn't say eloquent, but people can normally understand what he's saying. It changes when he gets really flustered.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Alfred is both. He received a good education from Arthur, and picked up other things off the streets of his country. Alfred is strong in science and math, but fails at world history and world geography.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Alfred thinks on his feet unless flustered and caught completely off-guard.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He is intuitive and idealistic. However, there is usually a method to his madness.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
A decent one, considering he was taught by the personification of England.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
SCIENCE, AERONAUTICS, ASTRONOMIC, ASTRONOMY, AND ANYTHING TO DO WITH FLIGHT AND SPACE. He loves them to death, even after the huge rush back in the Cold War.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
So extroverted that if he were in solitary confinement he might actually die.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Alfred is cheerful and a little laid-back, but mostly driven. He mainly has a pretty even temper, but certain things can make him fly off the handle.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He loves meeting new people! However, he usually goes off on the first impression, and if it's positive then he's going to trust that person. This can be his downfall in many things, which is why he probably needs someone looking out for him.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
I would like to say both. He can do either depending on the circumstances.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight is his initial reaction, however sometimes he actually has to think about it.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Loves them. Any of them, for the most part. Alfred doesn't exactly appreciate certain harmful jokes, but whatever floats people's boats in his opinion.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
...There's one that's tentative because it hasn't been covered. The Civil War could have been a psychological break down to Alfred, or he became really schizophrenic. From the Cold War he developed a bit of paranoia, although it usually isn't very strong in modern times.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
So, so many moments in American history has defined Alfred's personality. When he met England as a colony, he found out what love from a pseudo-parent was like. In the Revolutionary War he found out what it meant to stand up for yourself, even if the cost was so high. The Civil War made him accept his Southern side, which is where most of his rashness comes from. When DC burned, he realized just what betrayal really felt like. During the Trail of Tears, Alfred felt the pain of genocide. The World Wars helped him get out of his isolationist shell, and the Cold War was just another slap in the face when his close friend turned against him. 9/11 was when he lost a bit of his innocence, though he always questioned why they did it. There are just so many events.
14. What does he fear?
Alfred fears that he will fail, and if that happens then everything he knows will just slip away. He fears losing the people he loves because he's gone through that so many times. He fears being all alone, despite his independent actions. Alfred also fears that if he gets too close, then he will just experience more pain again. He feels that if he again experiences the pain of losing someone so precious, like Arthur and Ivan had been, that he will break. Alfred fears that he will break down again, and when that happens he is terrified that there will be nobody to help him get back.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He just wants to be a guy the other Nations can depend on, and be seen as at least somewhat equal to them. He's young, he gets it, but really all he wants is someone to accept him as an "adult" Nation. Sometimes, Alfred doubts that he will ever be seen in that way.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Alfred doesn't want anyone to see him displaying anything other than joy. He's just afraid of getting hurt, and that his real self is just too wrong for others to see, or something along those lines.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
PFFFFT, what parents? He was just there.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Everyone in North America is his sibling, technically. His relationship with Matthew is of the protective older brother, but he doesn't show it. Much. He loves his brother, he really does, and would love to spend more time with him, but it's hard for him to express it. Cuba...they just don't get along. Don't even MENTION Mexico. Seriously.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Nope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
England's an adoptive 'big bro,' I suppose. When he was a colony he adored him. When he grew up, Alfred didn't speak to him at all until the World Wars. Now he is actually on very good terms with Arthur, despite their constant arguments and bickering.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
England used to be, but then the Revolutionary War happened. Then he was best friends forEVER with Russia, and then the Cold War happened. Alfred met Arthur when he was a colony, and the same goes for Ivan.
6. Does he have other close friends?
France, perhaps, and Japan. Lithuania as well.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Alfred makes friends fairly easily, actually, but Nations don't seem to count. He can make friends with many humans. However, most Nations view him negatively, and thus he doesn't form many close ties with them. It's hard to become friends with someone who hates your guts, and he finds it a little unfair that they can't see him as a person as well as a Nation.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He hasn't really had a family, so he will go with friends, though it is likely to change if he has kids. Alfred puts children ahead of many things.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Alfred is woefully single.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Hell no. This is one of those Puritan beliefs kicking in with the whole don't cheat on your wife and all that.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
His first crush? Ivan. He was the only person who stood by him when all the world practically shut him away. Alfred never forgot that, and sometimes still feels a little something for Ivan, but he feels that the Cold War completely ruined everything. He's willing to give love one more shot with Arthur, nowadays.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
He wants someone he feels comfortable with sharing every side of him. Alfred likes cuddling, affection, and even being told a simple "I love you" will make him genuinely cheerful for an entire day. He wants someone he can depend on for if/when he falls down. Alfred prefers a person with a strong personality, someone who isn't afraid to bring him back down to earth. He wants someone who is fairly loyal to him, and doesn't care if this person happens to be a human or Nation. Seriously, Alfred just wants love.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Most go by the headcanon that the States also have personifications, which makes 50 teens he has to look after. However, if that doesn't apply, then yes, I think Alfred would love to have kids. He loves children.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Ivan. Although, he's more of a frienemy. Right now, he's not on good terms with the Middle East.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
Smack dab in the middle. Chicks, dudes, doesn't matter to him.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
And here comes another Puritan belief. In my headcanon, Alfred is still virgin because of one teeny-tiny thing: he wants to save himself for someone he really and truly loves. He missed his chance with Ivan, and at the time Arthur was still a big bro to him.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Ohhhh, boy. It's all completely headcanon with almost NO justification. Why we're discussing this, I have no clue but it's entertaining and Alfred will hate me foreeeeeverrrrrr~.
Turn-on: Alfred somehow likes, but doesn't admit, to wearing Gothic dresses. Have at. Other than that - accents, biting, being dominated (WILL NEVER ADMIT THIS), using certain languages, his ears are really sensitive, NANTUCKET ABUSE, having fingers running through his hair (cat moment), being shoved against a desk or wall (dude, I don't even know why), and...weirdly enough, butterfly kisses along his jawline.
Turn-off: Bondage (he doesn't really like the idea of being bound), BDSM (he's squeamish), toys in general (which is weird, all things considered....), choking, blood play, and kitchen settings. He wants to eat without being REMINDED of that, man.
Weird bedroom habit: Well, it's not really weird, it's more...cute. He likes to cuddle, receive affectionate kisses, and the exchange of "I love yous" just solidifies things for him.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Chinese Zodiac doesn't apply to him~. If we go by the traditional Western astrology, he'd be a Cancer, and it just doesn't work for him. However, in the sidereal astrology, Alfred is a Gemini, and that suits him far more as it is an air sign, and Geminis in general fits him.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Alfred is not really religious, but he can be spiritual at times. He accepts all religions, and doesn't practice one in response to that. Alfred's spiritualism comes from his fear of ghosts, and from the stories of the Native Americans.
He was founded because people wanted to escape religious persecution, so I'd say it was pretty damn important in his life. It shaped him into the person he is today.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Yes, he does, and it began with the settlers. The only way to get him to compromise it was if he was faced with an extremely hard decision.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Alfred is both tolerant and curious. As stated before, he accepts all religions, and thinks that people can practice whatever the hell they want. However, he does like knowing about what the religion is all about so that he knows what not to say and all.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He doesn't hold any, technically, since he accepts people from all walks of life. He tries to look beyond the race of a person, and just look at the personality.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Technically, rich. But he doesn't flaunt it.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Alfred is just some dude. Nobody knows that he is a Nation, except for the leaders of the world, people on the need-to-know list, and other Nations.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Alfred lives in a very nice house that he built and refurbished throughout the years. It's located in Arlington, Virginia. He loves his house, and it's in excellent condition. It looks like a piece of history that stands tall and proud. Alfred has no qualms with letting people bunk in his house.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Technology, games, and gadgets. And spoiling his animals.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
To the general population, he works as assistant to the President of the US.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Anything science, dealing with space/flight, techno stuff, video games, and hanging with friends.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He avoids Arthur's cooking AT ALL COSTS. But sometimes he just humors Arthur by eating something...and it ends in him choking to death/poisoned/passed out. Generally, Alfred usually eats fast food because...it's fast and ready to go. But he isn't averse to eating a nice dinner out, despite his initial complaints.
