It's rare for me to see a movie that I simply cannot watch all the way through (I fall asleep every time during Electric Dragon 80,000 V), or that I'm actually angry at having seen (Moulin Rouge), but watching the un-cut, un-rated version of Ichi the Killer was definitely an experience. From your recent post, I got the impression that someone's remaking Ikiru? I mean, it's definitely ridiculously inaccessible to American audiences in its current form, but still.

The Happiness of the Katakuris kind of lost its novelty quickly for me.

Kurosawa is my favorite director of all time. I haven't seen enough other Japanese movies. I've seen a few Chinese movies and they all shared the same, bizarre, childish/unrealistic vein...but Beijing Bicycle was awesome, though horrifically sad.

Possibly relevant article, espeically at the end.

Sometimes (well, according to stats, almost all?) the most politically liberal people are actually pretty conservative, in comparison political conservatives.
