What he's about to do is suicide. The term really applies now, but in his mind it won't really be death. He would live in her blood, in the life she would have.
It would hurt her, living with the knowledge of what he was- of what she would no doubt do to him. They were never particularly gentle with one another though, and as he can't live without her, she would just have to live.
Who knew- the creations who destroyed humanity also held the key to save them from sickness.
