Laura walked slowly from sickbay, discouraged by Cottle’s latest prognosis. She was running out of time. Commander Adama wasn't helping. She needed to talk to him, make him understand...
Fortuitously catching sight of the back of his head bobbing purposefully down the corridor, she gave chase. "Commander, could I have a moment?" Her heels clambered loudly as she struggled to match his steady strides.
He stopped suddenly and turned. "Madam President?"
Her momentum caused her to come up short against him, nearly colliding into his chest. She backed up, attempting but failing to control her panting breaths and flushing cheeks as he silently looked her up and down.
He quirked an eyebrow, but when she failed to respond, he excused himself. "I’m needed back in CIC. If you don’t mind..."
The President’s glare tethered him to the spot. "I’d like to speak to you again about sending the Raider back to Caprica. What you have to understand is--"
“Look, this is not negotiable.” His tone was firm. “It would be a misallocation of an important military asset. My decision, not yours.”
She grabbed his shoulder and pulled him into a storage alcove, not caring what her security detail must think, and leaned in as she spoke in low tones. “I urge you to reconsider, Commander. Right now that Arrow is the only lead we’ve got in finding a new home.”
“The Arrow of Apollo,” he sneered, “is just a relic. That tomb’s a myth. So is Earth.”
“But the scriptures clearly say--”
“I’m sorry, but I’ve never had much faith in the scriptures.” He turned to leave, giving her a dismissive nod over his shoulder.
“I know,” she whispered to herself, subconsciously brushing her fingertips over the skin of the left side of her chest. “And that’s a problem.”
