Help?

Does anyone have a little tip, like a rhyme or something that you maybe learned as a child to help you to remember when to use lie or lies vs. lay or lays? I have looked this up over and over but my brain simply cannot remember the rules. I even have a grammar book I keep next to my computer! But I still just cannot remember this! The lying liar lets sleeping dogs lie, but will lay down with them if they're snuggly.

Someone who lays their clothes out the night before won't have wrinkles in them in the morning, unless someone lies on them.

No rhythms, but I always remember that you lay tiles and eggs. So lay is something you the subject do to something else.

Lie is something you the subject do yourself. Then it's lay in past tense.
