Book reviews (& such)

Jan 29, 2011 21:56

So one of my ~Resolves for 2011 was to start reading books again -- one a week, ideally. This isn't actually that difficult of a task, but basically: I have shelves full of stuff I've either made it halfway through or bought and then never cracked open (or have, somehow, as a classic, but have never read). So I'm determined to make my way through ( Read more... )

books are for sniffing

it was something i had on my shelf, but. I guess I didn't have to read it in school? And I always associated it with some terrible ethan hawke/gweneth paltrow movie? WHAT WAS THAT EVEN?

I bought Dorian Grey for my next ~classic read -- no idea why i've never read that, either. and for 50 at the library bookstore for a good old copy...eee. I'm oddly excited.

I LOVE THOSE SEDARISES. So kooky!

I am reading books again too and I'm really loving it. For years I'd read almost only fic, but it's been great to return to reading books.

I remember liking Tender Is the Night. I also read The Last Tycoon, but don't remember much about it. Basically though, I don't think you can go wrong w/Fitzgerald.

See: I got myself all worked up in an argument with someone over Nooks & Kindles and all that. I feel like I'd go to war for books, for the printed word on page, etc -- but then realized even I'd only been reading things online & felt like a hypocrite.

But there are so many more styles & so many books that I know about but just haven't read, so. It feels good to do something I really want to do, for myself :)

I seriously want to be pissed that school failed to expose me to Fitzgerald, but I guess it is never, ever too late. I'll look into both of those, thank you!

I feel like you just slap me on the face. "Read more books" is my New Year resolution too. And I haven't read one book since 2011 started.
Reading this post just makes me want to curl up and cry.
