and you know, I wanted to be encouraging, so I said many Christians. I obviously can't know if that's true. I just can't imagine any of the Christians I've ever met (hm... minus a tiny few) supporting what this teacher did. sigh.

I'm amazed that people would be mad about what the kid did. Well, amazed is the wrong word. Distressed? Surprised? Even though I know I shouldn't be. I feel like when you get to the "only Christians get to heaven" in History class, something is up.

Remind me to tell you the long drawn out story of my brother's free speech battle with our high school and our eventual loss because my mom didn't want to "cause trouble" or "make Jake's life difficult" by standing up for his right to publish what he wanted. Gotta love it.

And on a completely unrelated issue, the Kearny On the Web site is absolutely atrocious. What's up with the spider webs?

I don't even understand why people are defending the teacher at all--saying the kid was baiting questions? I remember in high school if a discussion got to a certain religiosity (if you want to call it that) the teacher would say "Youknow, thats not really appropriate for a classroom setting." Yeah we grew up in the Bay where you have to be super careful about that stuff--but I thought everyone knew that all over the US. You just can't bring that stuff up in a public school.

Didn't we have a substitute like that at SHS? or was it at Redwood? He'd go all "evolution isn't true..." just like this guy did and he got kicked out no questions asked. Who was that guy?
