Iyengar Review

Back to the Iyengar Yoga class at the local gym - this time it was the real teacher rather than a substitute.

The teacher, Bob, seems pretty good - he describes what your limbs and muscles should be doing so I spent less time anxiously watching what others were doing and more trying to get it right myself. He also offers alternatives/warnings for people with back problems and seemed to wander around the class to correct postures more than the last teacher - which I found reassuring. Another good point for me was the no-nonsense feel to the whole thing. I definitely don't want any tree-hugging! Downside was that the class is very large.

This class was a lot more challenging than the Hatha one I tried a few weeks ago so I think I'll be sticking with it for a while. I'd still like to go back to Wale's Ashtanga class at some point, but it won't hurt to build up stamina and flexibility, and this Iyengar class is much easier to get to.
