[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Vriska Serket
Age: Six Solar Sweeps (13 years of age)
Gender: Female
Canon: Homestuck
Timeline: During her excursion with John in the dreambubbles, post-death.

Character History:
All the links. All of them.

Character Personality:
While she hides it very well, Vriska is actually one of the more violent trolls of the group (second only perhaps to Eridan and Gamzee). Much of her tone is easily readable in her text. More often than not, Vriska speaks in a most dramaaaaaaaatic fashion to express herself. Her sarcasm and general viciousness are rarely hidden in any form of speech, be it in text or verbally. She comes off as a 'huge bitch' through most of the series, shifting between bored to sadistic to remorseful and back again. Yet during an early conversation with Aradia, she pours a good portion of her heart out and stresses her dislike of both her blood and of what the other trolls think of her.

Because of the blood caste system Alternia runs on, Vriska's 'blood clan' is higher up in society than most of the other trolls. She once refers to it as 'oh so envia8le cerulean SWILL', indicating that she cares very little for her social standing. This is reinforced when she later kills Tavros (a troll much lower in society than her self, and someone she considered a friend) and shows a good deal of remorse. She tells John that 'I killed him 8ecause at the time, I thought I wanted to, and sort of felt like I finally had to' and that she felt 'horri8le' for killing him. She also tells John that she can't pass this information on her remorse to the trolls, or they would see her as weak. Thus, despite Vriska appearing confident and tough on the outside, deep down she's really struggling to find her place in the world. Above all else, she fears that her friends will abandon her when they discover that she is not the picture perfect blue blood, despite being one of the most dangerous trolls in the group. And while most of the trolls forsake the blood caste system, Vriska tends to embrace it (despite her inner distaste for her 'role', so to speak) because that is what she believes she was meant to be.

One important thing to remember about Vriska is that while she may fear for being alone in the end and while she may try to help others become strong, most of the time Vriska does not know what she wants. Vriska often tries to put her needs before others and ends up trying to help third-parties anyway. For example, when Jack Noir was about to kill John, Vriska tells him to sleep on his 'Quest Bed'. When he is killed here at the top of his Echeladder, he ascends to God Tier, a feat which is only achieved by two other characters in the series thusfar (Vriska herself and Aradia). Her methods are often dangerous, leading those she's guiding into life-threatening situations to satisfy her innate sadism as well as her well-veiled, kind nature.

One work that can summarize Vriska up very nicely is ‘reckless’. She’s willing to take risks others are not in order to further herself and others, and will often drag unwilling parties into her ventures regardless of protest. Vriska is known for cheating and various manipulative tactics in both every day life and gaming. Often she will admit to taking shortcuts when it comes to gaming, but she takes great offense to anyone else pointing it out in any other aspect of her life. Vriska believes she is the best, no matter what anyone says, and if anyone tries to suggest that she is less than that, she will react. Everyone is on equal footing in her eyes, and her psychic abilities give her weight over anyone else.

Vriska is also a lot more like her 'mother' ( a very large spider ) than she lets on. She describes their relationship as testy, but many of her mannerisms are centered around spiders in general. Her typing quirk replaces 'b' (and sometimes other letters when frustrated) and 'ate' sounds with the number 8 (the number of limbs a spider has). All of her emoticons have eight eyes. In actual mannerisms, there is even a point where, during a flarping session, she traps Tavros in her web. She’s often regarded as creepy, luring others in with her manipulative tendencies before cutting them loose and watching them flounder.

To sum it all up, Vriska is constantly trying to prove herself in the eyes of the trolls (and readers). In recent updates, she flies off to fight the end game boss by herself, believing that she is the only one strong enough to fight him. She also tells John earlier that she wants to protect her friends, so the act can be seen as one both bigheaded, yet somewhat noble. Unfortunately, the irony of all of it is that she fails at being the hero because her once-closest friend stabs her to prevent the demise of the rest of the team in the face of Vriska’s recklessness. It’s important to remember that, while she is in the process of striving to be a better, less horrible individual, she is still a sadist at heart, as well as an inherently confrontational person. It’s unlikely that she will ever properly adjust to a normal lifestyle. She will always need somebody to watch her.

I'm going to pull a (translated) quote that maps out something very important.
AG: So because we got [to play the game], it means we'll never actually get to come of age and enter troll society, and see if we got what it takes [to survive].
AG: But that doesn't mean we stop growing up!
AG: I think the game knows it's always gonna be played by kids, and it always rigs it so they enter right around the cusp of sexual maturity, whatever the race is.
AG: Which kinda makes sense, since if they succeed, they've got their whole lives ahead of them to do whatever the hell they're going to do in their universe, like start repopulating and whatnot.
AG: That means the game also knows it's got to deal with all these damn kids who are coming of age while playing it!
AG: I really think how successfully they mature is tied to success in the game. It challenges the players in all the ways they need to be challenged to grow, which is different for every individual, and veeeeeeeery different for every race.

Murders and death aren't about to bother her -- both are an every day occurrence in troll society and she is even expected to kill others herself at age 13. On top of that, Jack (the end boss in her session) has already killed multiple times in their session, and even threatened their lives at one point when she improperly antagonized him. She's watched her friends die around her, and has even killed some of those closest to her. Its important to note this, because it really says something about the kind of person she is. Her connections to people don't always run deep, and even if they do, if she believes that death will help a person she cares about out...then they're going to die.

Vriska prides herself on being a manipulator. Any sort of mind-bending that occurs will serve to frustrate her greatly, especially since she won't have her telepathy/mind-control herself. She's also very likely to take to befriending other people like herself in terms of murder, as they'll make her feel a little bit less like a freak amongst a society (being human society) that she's always seen as weak and alien (because despite the trolls being a very violent race, she is a deviant among them, as she kills friend and foe alike).

Vriska is VERY challenge oriented. If she is challenged to do something, chances are, she will accept it regardless of the risks involved. Unless she dislikes the other party involved, she'll more than likely be willing to work with a partner as long as she comes out on top. The second it turns into a contest is the second Vriska puts all her backbone into the task at hand. She's not at all in a hurry to die, so if she has to cooperate in order to prevent it, she will. That being said, however, she is not above dragging her partner into potentially dangerous situations if she thinks the result will make them stronger. She's absolutely obsessed with being the best, and its likely that if she happens to bond with anyone, she will also become obsessed with making them 'the best' and more like her.

Death has done a lot more for Vriska than she would admit to most people. It hasn't humbled her to the point of admitting her mistakes to her peers, but it's forced her to grow up just a bit. She still displays moments of extreme sarcasm when speaking to John in the dreambubbles, but her distinct 'holier-than-thou' attitude is absent. One important thing to remember is that John gets special treatment. It is highly unlikely that she will ever bow her head to anyone else, but she is much less susceptible to trolling due to newfound apathy in death (as the trend goes with dead characters in homestuck). But as the story goes, Vriska is still Vriska to the core -- in fact, it could be argued that her death has made her even more dangerous in terms of care and caution when it comes to executing her brilliant plans, as well as more conscious of the consequence of failure.

Any sort of relationship is very complicated when it comes to Vriska, as she always takes everything to extremes. If she cares for someone, she won't outwardly show it unless it benefits her somehow and won't damage her reputation. We see this with Aradia, where she treats her with scorn after having 'gotten even' with her, and eventually flipping the fuck out when she is unable to make nice with her due to various different circumstances. As Vriska is naturally a very antagonistic character, she is used to people hating her. While she isn't a big fan of being hated by everyone she comes in contact with, she is very used to it, and so it tends to roll off her shoulders in most situations. Only those closest to her will ever witness moments of emotional weakness.

Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
Vriska has achieved in Sgrub what is known as "God Tier", essentially making her immortal. She can still be killed, but the death must be "heroic" or "just", implying that she herself became corrupted or she died a martyr fighting someone else who was corrupt. God Tier also gives her the power to steal the fortune of others for herself. This is significant to note because Vriska, while not as fearful of death as other characters, has no intention of failing and perishing permenantly. God tier requires that the character face their death in order to ascend.

Vriska carries 8d8 known as the "Fluorite Octet". Instead of trying to tl;dr about how it works, I will link a page. The sum of it is that the results of the rolls are unknown to Vriska herself, and are generally unpredictable, though some rolls already have abilities attached to them. The ability to use these dice grants her a range of skills unavailable to most other characters in Homestuck.

Vriska's most used ability, however, is her telepathy. She has the ability to manipulate impressionable minds. Those with strong minds free of doubt and uncertainty are out of her reach. However, if there is doubt, she will pick away at it and bend the victim in question to her will. Its considered a natural ability for trolls. Vriska never uses this ability proudly -- anytime anyone calls her out on using her mind manipulation to gain the upper hand, she throws a tantrum.

BUT GUESS WHAT, NONE OF THAT IS COMING INTO SOUL CAMPAIGN, YOU LOSE VRISKA.

However! Despite her younger years, Vriska is very quick of wit and rather apt at problem solving. Even though her decisions aren’t always the best, she can often assess a situation and come to a conclusion quicker than others. Her silver tongue can talk her way out of trouble, if she feels outmatched (which is rare).

In addition, her dice were magical, offering her an array of different weapons at her disposal. It is because of this that we assume that Vriska is highly adaptable when it comes to wielding any sort of weapon. Most of the trolls and kids in Homestuck are narrowed down to one specific weapon, whereas Vriska's is her dice that allows her multiple. This also demonstrates Vriska's ability to cheat and cleverly maneuver her way around rules.

Her determination to be the best is a weapon all in itself, because Vriska doesn't believe there are many things worse than losing. As a result, she'll throw herself face first at any challenge posed to her. That isn't to say she's stupid -- if the odds are clearly stacked against her, she may decline on principal, though with enough needling, its possible to get Vriska to do just about anything she sets her mind to. Its a trait many characters lack.

Having been through many trials and tribulations of the physical variety, Vriska is shown to be rather durable in the face of damage. Half the comic is Vriska bleeding to death, and then somehow bouncing back from the certain death.

Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
Though she'll tell everyone else otherwise, Vriska loathes the idea of being an outcast and being alone. Its one of her biggest fears, especially when one considers how troll society is governed. Alternia thrives on death, violence, and mass reproduction, and Vriska herself has a lot to live up to being a cerulean blood and the descendant of Marquise Spinneret Mindfang, who excelled in all three departments. Despite being violent and dangerous, this actually pushes people away, rather than cause them to gravitate to her, which often confuses and infuriates her to the point of trying to make amends. She always fails at this for one reason or another, though the bottom line is that Vriska is a horrible person with a horrible personality, incapable of showing compassion until its shown to her.

Another big weakness is also one of her biggest strengths, and that is her resolve and determination. Her stubborn skull will often lead her into unfavorable circumstances, and pride will often win out over common sense. Vriska does not back down for anything, especially if there are eyes upon her. Death will have made this trait in her even worse, as she'll recognize that she has very little left to lose.

Vriska is not a likable character in many aspects, from any species perspective. Most troll adults would approve of her ruthless nature, but disapprove of her guilty conscious that often follows shortly after the act. Any human (except John) would condemn her for her violent acts, adult or child. The troll kids that she is "friends" with often regard her as a bitch and try to avoid making unnecessary contact with her. Her ego doesn't help the situation, often leaving her in long stretches of denial. Despite the denial, a part of her very well knows that she is stuck in some weird limbo in terms of culture. She embraces the expectations Alternia places on her (though she'll deny caring about it if you ask her) and prefers addressing situations with brawn over brain most of the time. However, she finds guilt prodding at her more and more as the story goes on, finally confessing to John that she wants to consider being more human. This confession is just that -- a confession. She is still Vriska to the core, and therefore the trek to redemption would be long and arduous, especially after death has claimed her. Just because she says she feels bad doesn't mean she's about to change overnight.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign?

The only thing Vriska will keep is her ridiculous tolerance for pain and her personality strengths. Everything else is considered super-human, I believe. :|a

What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign?

Vriska won't lose any weaknesses, as most of those lie in the realm of personality flaws rather than physical or situational weakness.

The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?

Vriska is one of the best warriors from the session the trolls participated in, second only to Gamzee. She is obscenely crafty and adaptable to almost any situation, which are two traits that are very valuable and can easily turn the tide of battle. Vriska was also one of two trolls to reach godhood, making her an obvious choice to call upon.

While she doesn't actively participate in espionage, Vriska makes use of game cheats and shortcuts. She also lacks a general moral code most of the time, and so there aren't too many things she'll refuse to do as long as they benefit her in some way, or if they are challenging enough to appeal to that part of her personality.

Despite being somewhat immature and sarcastic, Vriska can make a decent leader if the time calls for it once she steps down from her high horse, even though she often acts as an independent. She makes a point to collect knowledge behind the scenes to make sure she and/or her team always comes out on top -- her new settings won't change that.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why is your character a Meister and not a Weapon?
Bear in mind that Meisters and Weapons are meant to be equals in partnerships: a Meister does not control the Weapon. We will not accept the reason if it is related to this.

As previously stated, Vriska has the capability to wield many different kinds of weapons without much difficulty. Her drive to be the best will lend itself to pushing her partner to become a death scythe faster than any other character. It is unlikely that she would cooperate as the role of a weapon on principal, believing that she could make the ladder climb on her own.

Vriska spends most of her existence coaching and guiding other Sburb/Sgrub players to greatness and the highest tiers, so her carrying a weapon to ascension won't be much different.

What is your character’s Meister Ability? Why?

Soul Steal: Vriska's player title is the Thief of Light. Her player powers involve stealing the luck of her opponents, ensuring that the best possible outcome occurs in her favor. She is naturally sneaky and selfish, manipulating the world around her by stealing the wills of others through telepathy. Stealing is a very natural behavior for her.

Soul Luck: Going back to the statement above, she is a big gambler and believer in luck. Her player powers are centered around stealing it.

Soul Manipulate: ONCE AGAIN going back to the above, she has (had) natural telepathy in her own world that allows her to mind control other people.

Even being away from the snow didn't help Vriska's vision or the strange cold feeling running through her veins. It was strange actually, being able to see without the aid of her glasses. With or without them, the outer edges of her eyesight were filled with a strange white glow that she desperately tried to blink away every now and then. It usually happened when John tried to look her in the eyes. He didn't seem to care about their appearance, though Vriska was more inclined to believe that he was simply oblivious.

That was, of course, until he finally accepted the truth. They didn't look so different from one another now. Somehow, that didn't bring her any comfort, nor did it cool the ice cold feeling welling up under the jacket she was bundled up in. Her responses almost felt scripted, even though she could feel surprise pinging its way into her mind's eye. Vriska's subconscious was slightly sluggish, no doubt thanks to the haze of the dreambubble. It was so stupid! Again, the strange rush of anger felt almost hollow, though justified. How could she have let Terezi stab her like that?

But whatever. That was fine. The conversation was interesting enough to distract her from her frustration. Who would have thought that John took the time to speak to his denizen before it would murder him?

As John went on, however, Vriska could feel herself dozing. Maybe the conversation wasn't quite as interesting as she thought, nor was her rage strong enough to snap her out of her stupor. She didn't even notice how dark everything had suddenly gotten until the television screen snapped to life.

This guy wasn't anymore interesting to listen to than John, but this time, she can feel the indignation boiling through her blood. Why was she here? Had she been wrong about her revival? Had she really wasted all that time for nothing? She glanced at her hands, skin still slightly pale though not nearly to the magnitude as it had been in the dreambubble. The ice in her veins calmed itself to a light chill, barely noticeable through the heat of frustration rapidly flowing through her. They had taken her. Whoever these people were, they had swallowed her back into the land of the living to start over with new powers and a new purpose.

That, too, was just fine with her...however it would be done on her terms, and not theirs. All it would take was knowledge of this new game and her usual playstyle. But this time, Terezi wouldn't get the jump on her.

No...not this time.

[ NOTES ]
Test Drive Meme Thread for your convenience!

Also one quick inquiry -- I know everyone is revived back to life when they arrive in Soul Campaign, but Vriska is coming from a timeline where she exists essentially as a ghost (a solid ghost, of course). It doesn't prevent death or anything like that, its just a state of being (and gives me an excuse to use white-eyed icons). Would that appearance hold true upon arrival, or will she look as if she's alive again?
