I saw "Sicko" today, which was pretty good, if sobering (although I still have criticisms which I can tell you about next time you're online) but Moore spent a lot of time discussing the social safety net of European countries like England and France. Part of this of course includes France's 30-hour workweek and five weeks of paid vacation. It certainly enables me to understand why you'd support reform over revolution.
I do not understand people who make a free choice to work over 40 hours a week on a long term basis. I usually only work 35 hours a week and I feel like I spend my entire existence working, or going to work.
I think that's kind of the point. It leaves less time for anything else.
there have been times when I have found that work is the most rewarding part of my life. I have had a few jobs where I don't know if I would do them for free, but given being paid at least minimum wage I would definitly opt at times for working over 40 hours a week. then again, my preference is to work an insane amount and then take a little bit of time off.
