"Unused audio commentary" to Return of the King
by "Howard Zinn" and "Noam Chomsky" (not really, but a parody of their political commentary)

ZINN: The only one who possibly has any true insight into what is going on here is Elrond, and he's so wrapped up in his daughter's on-again, off-again relationship to Strider that I don't think he even cares by this point.

Omigosh, I'm dying. This is genius.

Twisted, innit?

I love it!

Ee! It's nice that a few people recognize the questionability of Aragorn's claim, even if the canon ultimately supports him. And I only know of Chomsky as a linguist, so I'm amused to see him commenting on the relative viability of rulers in fantasy novels. ;)

Hee! I thought of you when I selected that quote!

*hastens to add that this is not the real Noam Chomsky, of course, just a parody. Will have to make that clear*

I get the impression that Chomsky has written quite a bit on politics in recent decades. Viggo (heh) has quoted him on such topics.

XD *is an idiot* I probably would have figured that out if I'd read the rest of the commentary. Still, that's what I get for knowing nothing about politics. Heh.

*goes to read the rest of it now*

Part of the reason why it's a successful parody is because there are so many true zingers in the statements, and I think that the authors captured the voice of this kind of commentary really well. So I'm not surprised that it seemed believable to you!

This seems so hilarous!

It's hysterical! The authors must have put a lot of work into it.

I'd love to have this as a commentary choice on the DVDs.

You know, I prefer the deconstructivist (deconstructian? deconstructivistian?) view. If Saruman can talk you into things, I'm convinced Gandalf can as well. He's following his own plans for sure. Yepp.

Hidden agendas!

There's a reason why they say to beware meddling in the affairs of wizards!

It occurred to me later that it's deconstructionist.

I read this like, two years ago, but this was before I read Machaivelli, Zinn, or even heard about Chomsky.

I now have, which makes it even more hilarious. Just read Zinn in history a couple weeks ago... hated it quite a bit, actually. Haven't read Chomsky. Heard from some he was an idiot, others he was a genius. XD But man, this was great to read again, especially since I understood it now XD

Uh, sorry, easily distracted here.

Poor Strider, pretender to the throne!
