When he thinks about it, he can list many practical reasons for the King to retain him as Steward. His mind is satisfied. But his heart yearns to see deeper truths: gratitude to his family, or even trust? Or his secret desire: have his years of service perhaps earned such an honour?
He is still stunned, to say the least, but he has overcome his initial shock and found in himself so strong desire to serve king and country that his heart feels both heavy and light with it. And he marvels: what new wonders will this Fourth Age bring?
