what exactly is realid? i quit awhile ago but im thinking of playing again when cataclysm is released (either that or ff14)

It is / was a system whereby you could communicate across servers, factions and even games, if BOTH people consented to a friends request. Great idea if you have friends, family or co-workers scattered all over, or if they have a million alts, etc.

But by them suggesting to ALSO use it on the forums means that, unless they do an excellent job on security.. they're risking everyone's privacy and possibly their identity/credit..

I mean, heck, I DO use my real name online sometimes, but the thing is, whenever I do, I have control over it. This system currently has limited ways to control or even change it, so.. yeah. Bad idea all around.
