A potential snag

It's no secret I am looking for another department. It's not that I don't like Port Liberty, it's that I don't think I can afford to stay. That's a bummer, because the department has been very good to me. Still, "good" doesn't pay to raise a family ( Read more... )

Have you requested that the companies verify their information on you?

Can they prove you walked off the job?

Can you talk to their file clerk directly?

They have documentation saying I walked off. As far as proving it actually happened, I doubt it, but that brings us back to the documentation. The investigator will go with the paperwork he has.

Verify how?

I imagine I could talk to them directly, and Iplan to do so. I am unclear about what good it would do.

Its harder in this day of electronic records but back in 1983 I had to clear up a problem with my university book store credit card by physically going in and talking to the file clerk.

You could check who signed off that you left without notice and try to have that fact checked etc.

I know this would be an affront to your honor, but as you are looking out for not just you ... but you and a family , I would swallow the injustice and just take the hits. The long term goal is what is most important and the un-truth hurts no one but yourself.

Actually, at this point, it does hurt more than myself, as if I admit to it, I'd be admitting to lying to them. Which would then result in the end of the process, and I'd have to admit that on any future application.

So that isn't an option. Besides, the notion untruths hurt no one but oneself is the very antithesis of what I believe.

OTOH, old man, you may be reading too much into it.

How consistent are your other sources/references?

Did you volunteer the info about the PI job, or did they have to pull it out of you?

What kind of reputation does the PI firm have?

In any event, good luck, and I hope you get it.

(And BTW--a belated happy birthday. I missed it while wading through some minor, but not less annoying, tsuris.)

There was no info to volunteer. As I said, the PI firm is lying. When confronted, I maintained my position they are telling an untruth, and provided written statements to that effect.

The PI firm is a private security company, and it is a bad one at that. I don't know what their reputation is like. they were very poorly run, and it was clear the priority was money for the managers with everything else a distant second.

Certainly the hospital will provide me with a solid reference. My old Army unit is currently deployed, so they can't say anything about me. My NDMS unit should give me a solid reference. I also have a dozen or so peace officers from various jurisdictions willing to go to bat for me. I could get more if I needed to.

And your support means a lot.

Have you called those companies to ask them about their erroneous paperwork? Maybe they need to remember who you are. They could have gotten you confused.(let's hope)

SSNs match. And what would I say? "It seems you made some mistakes on my paperwork and I would like to know if there is any way to resolve this".

Actually, I plan on doing exactly that on Monday, but I am not optimisitic.

I wish you luck. Hopefully they'll be reasonable. (But usually people aren't)
