Letting My Cynicism Go

I have a love-hate relationship with politics. I follow it religiously but refuse to trust a word that comes out of any politician's mouth. I am mostly up to speed on who's in charge, who's running, and what they've done. However, since I don't believe them, I rarely dig deep into their promises because I believe them to be empty.

Of course there's a part of me that is nervous because Bush Jr. always had cool, disciplined, and organized campaigns too (although more negative in tone)... and Obama is similarly inexperienced in many ways. That said I am optimistic, because he does SEEM genuinely smart, and I must admit that (living in a blue area) the increase in positivity today was itself fairly contagious.

Oh, and for the record I also cast an imaginary vote for Harper last month. :) I support competence and coherence on either end of the political spectrum.

I've supported Obama from the beginning and love his style and political positions. The fact that he's black is a non-issue for me. I actually find it really annoying when American commentators claim his story wouldn't be possible anywhere other then the United States. Right, because the United States is a worldly beacon of tolerance and the rest of the world is still bigoted.
