dear yuletide author:

I failed to get my yuletide letter up before assignments went out AGAIN, go me, but hiiii yuletide author, I hope I haven't made your life too much more difficult! I write pretty much the same letter every year so hopefully the ones already up will have been useful to you and anyway, to be honest, I'm going to love whatever you write :)

: I love AUs of all stripes, as crazy as they come. In historical fandoms I loooove detail and setting. I prefer happy fic, or if not then for the angst to mean something and not be just for the sake of it - and if there's light at the end of the tunnel, all the better. I like bantering and dialogue, and characters with solid friendships who show each other that they care, not necessarily through verbal declarations but with little gestures that show how well they know each other.

I'm fairly easy and will read most things with only a few exceptions: non-con, dub-con, deathfic, relentless angst. I tend to skim porn that doesn't serve a purpose - I'm not averse to sex in a fic, but I'd rather it serve the story and not be the entire point. It should go without saying that I don't like to read misogyny, racism, homophobia or character bashing - I love these fandoms, and I love all the characters in them.

1. A Place of Greater Safety - Maximilien Robespierre, Camille Desmoulins, Lucile Desmoulins
This novel ate my brain. I'm fascinated by Max and his relationship with Camille, and I'd just love to see more of it. Maybe fic from their school days together, or missing scenes from the novel. I think Lucile is amazing too, and I think any fic written from her perspective would be fantastic - she's a tricky customer, Lucille, and I'd love to know more about what she thinks of things. How does she feel about Max and Camille's relationship? How does Max feel about her and Camille? There's so much delicious character potential in the tangled webs between them. Ship-wise, if you're so inclined, I would read Max/Camille fic, or Max/Camille/Lucile, or Camille/Lucile - if the impression you're getting of me is that I'm so laid back I'm basically horizontal when it comes to fic for this fandom then that's accurate. I left Danton out of my sign-up request because I just don't like him much and I'd prefer not to read Danton-centric fic, but feel free to bring him or any other characters from the novel in as secondaries!

2. Tennis RPF - Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka
Vika and Caro's best-friendship was adorable a few years ago and Caro's rebound romance with Serena Williams has been giving me life the past few months. There is a terrible dearth of femslash in the tennis fandom and I think this should be fixed! Give me friendship, give me romance, give me rivalries; give me shopping trips and dates and cocktails; give me canon fic or bakery AUs. I'll read it!

3. The Eagle - Marcus Flavius Aquila, Esca Mac Cunoval
FILM OF MY HEART. I'd love to read fic that deals with these two Romano-British lovebirds after they ride off into the sunset together, the kind of life they make together, whether it's plain sailing or if there are bumps along the way. I love period detail (Romans are sort of my thing), so any kind of worldbuilding you want to do would be amazing. On the other hand, I love reading modern AUs for this fandom!

4. The Musketeers - Athos, Porthos
Okay, so, full disclosure: I only realised a second ago that I messed up this sign-up. I requested Athos and Porthos when I thought I was requesting Aramis and Porthos. That's my bad and if you matched on Musketeers then I'm really sorry if I've made your life difficult :( But honestly, I'm just going to say again that I will read anything in this fandom. I love this silly universe and I'll read anything in it. And hey, if we matched because you want to write an Athos/Porthos epic then I'M REALLY HERE FOR THAT because now that I think about it that would be awesome.

Like the Pirate's Code, though, all this is just guidelines. I want to read a story that you enjoyed writing - I think that's the best kind, whatever it might turn out to be - and it that means that you don't want to follow any of my ideas up there then go with your heart, I know I'll love the outcome! Happy yuletide, friend! :)

yuletide
