Hi-ho, meme-wagon away!

Oct 04, 2013 11:25

Since I'm appallingly bad at keeping up this blogging thing, particularly when playing 'side-effects bingo' with my medication, I have decided to jump on the latest helpful meme idea for the next *mumble* days.  I've seen this meme pop up a few times but I'm using the version I found here

Hi, my name is Jen but mostly I go by Ara.  I'm thirty years old (still not sure when that happened) and I live in the UK.  I'm a purebred Irish mutt regardless but I don't see the two as contradictory.  I live with Best Beloved Housemate (BBH) or
deannawol who is my best friend/platonic life partner and we've muddled along together just fine for the last five or so years.

I'm female, cisgendered, primarily asexual in that sex mostly doesn't interest me at all.  I am fascinated by the social and political interplay around the idea of sex.  When I am attracted to someone sexually, it's pretty much always a woman.  I identify as asexual but I don't really break down the details that often.  Asexuality as a fad mostly annoys me because I find some people who are too keen to see oppression where there isn't any.  I can understand how much it feels good to finally have a name for this thing but I think equating asexuality with non-hetero-sexuality can be problematic.

I am a feminist, an advocate of equal rights regardless of age, race, gender or sexuality.  I am adamantly pro-choice.  I'm mostly introverted but I enjoy socializing in groups where I know a significant proportion of the people or it's a convention/similar where there's a solid shared interest.  I love concerts but I prefer goth concerts to classical because I like being able to dance like no-one's watching. My favourite band of all time is a dark-wave/Goth band: the Cruxshadows who tour not-frequently enough in the UK.  Going to see them in Germany - where they tour more -  is on the bucket list.

I'm agnostic Unitarian of the Dublin Church branch.  I choose to identify as agnostic because neither atheism nor most organized religions really reflect how I feel about life, the universe and everything.  I don't tend to get into debates about it because in my experience, the divine or lack thereof is a very personal thing that rational arguments don't work on.  As long as the views of another person do not negatively impact on my way of life, I'm happy to live and let live.

I'm also autistic spectrum and suffer from chronic depression.  Managing both of these is a perpetual work in progress and one of the reasons I'm so grateful for the internet where I can find other people and coping strategies for both.  I like to write, draw, paint and play music.  I play the violin (somewhat haphazardly) and the tin whistle.

There isn't a recent photo because I don't like having my photo taken, I'm afraid.  Sorry!
