There are things in life that are just what they are. And they don’t have to have reasons for being what they are.
Well, if it's anything, that's the answer a lot of Chinese will accept :) I've suggested not having fireworks (am not fond) but am rejected because it's something the family has always done. Bleh.

Try living in Bonifacio Global City! I got to watch some of the fireworks from Ayala. AND I got the best seats for the fireworks display in The Fort. 26th floor, 2blocks away, no buildings blocking the view, AND NO POLLUTION. how fun is that?!
