Anyone remember penpals?

I don't recall if I ever had anyone write back to me, but I remember several times in elementary having our teachers make us write letters to other students somewhere "far away" ... *shrug ( Read more... )

Juju also has some strange stationery and stickers he uses to jazz up his letters. Much fun.

I used to have a penpal from Singapore. He told me my handwriting was really bad and told me to practise more. He even sent me some drills I could do.

I didn't write him back. :P

I've had numerous penpals over the years. In high school I had one from The Gambia. He fell head-over-heals in love with me, and asked me to move to Africa so we could get married :| I explained many, many times that I have no interest what-so-ever in him but was never able to get it through his think skull. To this day he mails gifts to my parents house that he has made for me. As creepy as it may sound, it's also the most romantic thing I've ever experienced! Among the things he has sent me are: a necklace of wooden beads with a hand carved heart (made from some strange wood I had never heard of before) with "LOVE" carved into it, a crazy mixed tape full of traditional Gambian music, various love notes and doodles, money (in the Gambian currency!), a hand made Africa shaped pendant necklace with my name on it (made of cow hide :|) and a million other home made items.
