LOL!
It's amazing what you can get students to do. I just received the Society for Endocrinology's email alert, in which one of the news items was the results of the 2009 AAAS/Science Dance Contest, in which students were challenged to explain their research through the medium of dance:

One of my labmates is now famous for his Carpediemonas dance, which nicely illustrates the difference in motion between different species of that genus.

And at the meeting I attended over the summer, I got to take part in a protist mating dance. So interpretive dances seem to have arisen multiple times independently.
