Clearly, this instructor did not proofread his FIRST EMAIL to students. Look, I know. We all have typos, but this guy has multiple punctuation mistakes, run-ons, and random errors (fully time Assistant Professor??). First impression of the guy when I read this? Moronic:
You are embarking on a wonderful journey that will lead you to the profession of teaching. This first class will introduce you to the teaching profession as well as the commitment, responsibilities and rewards of teaching. [so far, so good]
My name is Dr. ----[censored to protect the not-so-innocent] and I will be your instructor for this class. A little background information about myself, [really? no colon? no adding a verb and making it an stand alone sentence?] currently I am a fully time Assistant Professor with the University. Prior to teaching at ----- I held a variety of positions in the field of education including Assistant Superintendent, Director of Personnel, Principal and classroom teacher. [wow, I feel sorry for your former students]
To help me and your fellow students get to know you one of your first assignment, [no plural, Dr. Typo?] found on the discussion board, is your introduction to your fellow students and me. The optional question looks interesting.
Part of my responsibility, in addition to teaching, is to help you acclimate to the credential program and be a resource guide. In this vein, please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions and concerns. My e-mail address is ---- [where's the comma here?] office phone number [no my office number? Parallelism, people...] is ----, and my cell phone is ----. Do not hesitate to contact me.
Hints for success:
Check in and take part.
Print out and read the Teacher Performance Expectations, TPE’s and [guess he forgot last paragraph he used a comma before the and] get a feel for what you will be expected to demonstrate and know by program end. [by program end...really...]
Review the, <---[this could actually conceivably be a typo] calendar, required readings, activities, and assignments and plan accordingly to meet the due dates.
Review assignment’s [ah the tricky apostrophe...] and their expectations, this is your work take pride in what you do. [I don't even wanna go into the part after "expectations"]
Students are expected to use appropriate writing skills and style. [snerk] Use the NU library and Writing Center [period?]
Don't fall behind [none here either??]
Do well and be happy [wow, really inspiring, leaving off those 3 periods there, Dr. Typo...]
Sorry, I couldn't help bashing it. This is what I'm going to be paying good money for?? *sigh*
