When the first morning sun rays crept into his bedroom and hitting his face, Ohno grumbled in annoyance. He pulled the cover up, blocking the sunrise that disturbed his slumbers.
But he was already awake now. He reluctantly pulled the cover down and sat up.
He blinked several times before the room became clearer for him to see. Ohno looked at the digital clock that stands innocently on his bedside table. His eyes when wide when he saw what time it was already.
“Shit, I’m going to be late!” he muttered.
Ohno jumped out from the warmth of his bed and dash towards the bathroom. After a long hot shower, he quickly grabbed a white with blue stripe t-shirt and a pair of jeans from his closet. He paused a moment looking at the attires he just grab and wondering if it is the right clothes to wear. He then just shrugged it off when his gaze caught the clock on the bedside table.
“Damn it!”
After he put on his clothes, Ohno quickly grabbed his sketchbook and his drawing utensils and shoved them into his bag. He ran towards his bedroom door before making a sudden pause to look around his bedroom. When he sure that he did not forget anything, he open the door and left the room.
“Kaa-chan, ohayou~” he greeted his mother who was busy preparing some bentos.
“Ohayou~, did you slept well Satoshi?”
“Hai.” Ohno answers with a smile, he then looked at the two bentos that already sat neatly on the kitchen table.
“Are they for me?”
“Of course, it’s a long journey right?! So I made you some bentos.”
“Ah~ Arigatou Kaa-chan! I’ll eat them in the train.”
“Have a save journey!”
“Hai!” Ohno smile and nods. He put the bentos in his bag and walked quickly to the door when his mother yelled from the kitchen, “Send my regards to Nino okay Satoshi!!”
Ohno smiles and yell a long “Hai~” before he exit the house.
It was a long journey, however Ohno had gotten used to it. He took out his sketchbook and began sketching his most favourite inspiration, Nino. Every few minutes, he would closed his eyes and then his most beloved face would appeared with those brilliant brown eyes and those soft, feline-like smile. He had always loved that smile. Carefully, his pencil danced on the sketchbook, immortalizing every detail, every contour on his face. After about an hour, the sketch was finished and Ohno gazed on his masterpiece who was smiling back at him. A sudden warmth spread through his chest and Ohno really couldn’t help but to smile back at it.
He continued sketching whatever his fancy which mostly were pictures of Nino. If anyone ever looked at Ohno’s countless sketchbooks, they would probably think that Ohno is a creepy stalker or something. But, to Ohno, drawing or sketching Nino’s flawless feature make him feel content and composed. He likes those feelings, the kind of feelings that Nino alone could give him. Ohno’s hand didn’t stop until at some point during the journey he remembered the bentos his mother made for him. And with that, he put down his sketchbook and munching away his bento.
Everything looked unusually lovely and calm today, Ohno thought as he stepped out from the train and walked leisurely to his destination. He made a quick stop at the flower’s shop and bought a bouquet of lily. Ohno inhaled the sweet scent and he immediately thought of Nino. He bows to the owner and quickly made his way to the field they usually met.
“You’re late…” Nino said when Ohno reached there. He looked at his watch and realized that he was indeed late, by fifthteen minute actually. Ohno looked back at Nino who had his back facing Ohno. Nino was sitting on the ground with both arms crossed below his chest.
Ohno chuckled at this sight. Even without seeing his face, Ohno could tell that Nino was pouting. He walked silently to Nino and settled beside him. This time, Ohno purposely make a deep sound when he inhaled the flowers. Ohno managed to suppress the smile that threatened to appear on his face when his tactic had caught Nino’s attention. He continued his little charade by playing the petals with his long finger.
“A-Are those for me?” Nino asked softly.
Still playing with the petals he answered, “It depends…am I forgiven?” He then stopped his finger and glanced at his lover.
A gentle smile appeared on Nino’s angelic face, “You know I could never stay made at you…” He leaned towards Ohno and settled his head on his shoulder, nose tucked into the crook between Ohno’s neck and jaw. Ohno sighed contently. He then closed his eyes, instilling that moment in his memory.
The soft autumn breeze blown passed them as they stayed like that, embracing each other, enjoying the comfortable silent between them. After what it seems like forever, Nino loosened his arms around Ohno and planted a soft loving kiss on his forehead. Ohno made a dispproving noise but he too loosened his embraced around Nino’s shoulders.
Nino looked at the flowers that laid forgotten on the ground. Ohno followed his gaze and vaguely took the flowers before looking back at Nino’s soft feature.
“Thank you…for the flowers, they’re lovely.” Nino said still looking at the flowers.
Ohno smiled, “They’re your favourite right?!”
“Un~” Nino answered with a nod. “You can put them with the others…” Nino gestured Ohno to the grey stone not too far from them. Ohno then stood up, brushed off the dirt that had stuck on his jeans and walked to the only grey stone on that field. He looked at it briefly before he placed the flowers with the rest of them.
Ohno turned to look at Nino who looked back at him. Ohno smiled and walked back to his lover without breaking their eyes contact. He sat on the same spot next to Nino. They were silent for a moment before Ohno the first one to spoke, “Kaa-chan says Hi…”
A soft chuckle escaped from Nino’s mouth, “How is she?”
“She’s fine.” Ohno answered simply.
They spent their day talking idly about their life. Ohno the one who mostly do the talking while Nino only listened carefully to him. From his daily work to Aiba planning getting himself a puppy and to Sho getting married, Ohno told Nino everything about what had happened in his life. Nino would listened, sometimes he would laughed or giggled at the stories or jokes that Ohno told him. Whenever Nino was laughing, Ohno instantly felt that something somewhere deep inside of him lights up. And he happily joined in laughing with Nino. He always feels content when he’s around Nino.
But, something was off. Even when he was smiling or laughing, Ohno saw there’s sadness in Nino’s eyes. Suddenly, his heart felt heavy. Something was wrong and he didn’t like it.
There’s a long silent between them. They both didn’t speak, but they only stared at each other. To Ohno, the silent was unbearable. He really can’t stand when he fully realized that there was something wrong with Nino. For some reason, he felt that Nino slowly slipping through his fingers, felt that he will lost Nino soon.
Nino had his gaze fell on the ground. His face showed a bit of uneasiness and this clearly showed that he was troubled about something.
“Kazu…” Ohno lifted Nino’s head, he obediently complied but his eyes remained lowered.
“Kazu…what’s wrong??”
Nino didn’t answer, instead he looked away, biting his lower lip.
“Kazu…” Ohno called out, a hint of worried could be heard from his voice. His heart was beating so fast that it felt like it’s going to burst out from his chest. “Not today…please…” he pleaded in his thought. Ohno reached out and pressed his hands lightly to Nino’s cheeks, cupping his fragile-looking face. He gazed on Nino’s eyes, looking for something, anything that would tell him that Nino will always stays here, forever with him.
“Satoshi…” Nino paused before he continued. “Aren’t you tired? It’s been two years already…”
“No, I’m not!” Ohno snapped. “I like the way things are right now! I like it! No, I love it!!” he continued without realizing that he was crying.
“Please Kazu…stay…don’t leave…” Ohno said through his tears. His vision became blurry due to the tears so he tried to wipe them away with his sleeve, but the tears still wouldn’t stop.
“I just want you to be happy Satoshi….”
“But I am…I am happy…with you….like this….please Kazu….”
“Satoshi…..”
“No, I’m not…ready yet….I-I don’t want…t-to say goodbye…to you….”
Nino let out a sigh “You should have say it when they buried me Satoshi….it would be easier you know….”
“No…it would never be easy!” Ohno raised his voice, a sudden anger burnt his longing heart. “Do you think it’s easy to say goodbye to someone you loved so much?!! You think it was easy for me to watched them buried you?? You think it was easy Kazu?!” He sniffed loudly, wiping his last tears from his tear-stricken face with his damp sleeve.
Nino didn’t say a word. He let Ohno a moment to calm himself. Aside from Ohno’s sniffles and the soft breeze of wind, there was only a complete silent that accompanied them.
Nino then slowly put his hand on Ohno’s cheek, “It’s time to move on Satoshi…it’s pointless for you to keep on living like this….you need to let me go…”
“But..I-I want you to stay…” Ohno pleaded.
Nino looked at Ohno deeply. He then wrapped his fingers around his neck and pulled him close. Their lips met in a soft yet loving kiss. After a moment, Nino finally pulled away from the kiss, barely far enough for their foreheads to touch together. He looked straight into Ohno’s eyes with a gentle smile, “I love you Satoshi…...”
“I love you more Kazu…” Ohno replied softly.
The sky started to turn to a rose-tinted colour, signaling that the day was almost over, and then replaced by night time. This time, Nino really pulled himself away from Ohno but he still had his hand at the nape of Ohno’s neck. He then tilted his head to look at the beautiful sunset. Ohno followed his gaze, the sunset was gorgeous to him and it really calmed him somehow.
Nino looked back at him and Ohno also did the same. Nino’s hand who had previously at his neck was now rested on his cheek. He stroke his cheek lovingly, “It’s time…....”
Ohno nodded, even how much he pleaded or wished, he knew that this moment would come sooner or later. He had always afraid of the arrival of this day. But, there’s nothing he could do when Nino stood up and started to walk towards the sunset, leaving him behind. He felt his tears threatening to spill again, so he roughly wiped them away. But, no matter how hard he tried, the tears still silently streamed down his cheeks.
After a few steps, Nino stopped. He turned around to look at his one and only lover. He smiled at Ohno, “You don’t have to say goodbye Satoshi, we will see each other again, I promise. But promise me that you will have a great life, even when I’m not in it…”
Ohno bit his lip, “How could I live a life without you Kazu?! It’s impossible!!” he screamed silently in his head.
“Promise me Satoshi....…”
“.......Yes, I promise…...”
Nino gave Ohno one last smile that he will surely forever miss. “I’ll be seeing you Satoshi.” He promised.
As if sending Nino away, the soft autumn breeze came with thousands of petals from the Sakura’s tree and Nino faded away from Ohno, leaving him with nothing but their memories and also the promise he just made.
