Chapter 2 - He Speaks
Jun carefully pulled Nino's arm away from his waist and crawled back to his bed, hoping that Nino will think he was the only one that fell off his bed. Jun curled to a ball, feeling his heart still pounding from the sudden kiss.
'My gosh,' Jun thought, his fingers touching his lips. 'He's still sleeping after that?!'
Jun tried to get some sleep, but he couldn't get the memory out of his head. Soon afterwards, he heard Sho rolling around awake. Jun used this excuse to also wake up.
"Ah, morning, Sho!" Jun said, a little too loudly. "Just woke up? Me too! Heh! I'll use the bathroom first."
"Huh?" Sho grumbled, rubbing his eyes, but Jun was already out the door.
'Hmm, was I too suspicious?' Jun wondered. 'Speaking of which...where is the bathroom?'
Jun started to wander around the long hallways and tried opening a few doors. They all led to different living rooms with elegant black furnitures and different framed pictures on the small fireplace mantle. He decided to head back to ask Ohno, if he was awake.
Along the way, Jun spotted Naruse Ryo's portrait on the wall. Just like how he looks now, the oil painting replicated his black and lush hair, his tanned skin, and his charming smile. He is Ohno's uncle, and they look surprisingly alike...
"He is my mother's younger brother."
"Huh?" Jun turned around and saw Ohno.
"Uncle Naruse Ryo," Ohno simply answered, looking up at the portrait, "and my mother look quite alike. And that's why I sorta look like him too."
"O-ooh," Jun nodded. "Huh? Ohno? You're up early."
"I couldn't sleep," he said, like it was nothing.
"Heh?" Jun felt a cold chill. Ohno not being able to sleep is like saying Sho is skilled at flying a broomstick.
"Well," Ohno scratched his head. "Ever since Aiba became a Vocal Wizard, I can't sleep as much as I used to."
Jun frowned.
"But it's not like I don't mind," Ohno shrugged. "Actually, I feel perfectly fine. I do have a few hours of nap time, but that's it really."
"That's not healthy, Ohno," Jun sighed.
"Maybe to a regular person," Ohno mumbled, almost sinisterly. Jun's eyebrow twitched at the tone of voice. But then, Ohno's face lit up with his sweet smile.
"Let's go wake the other's up and head off to Diagon Alley," Ohno suggested. "My parents are at work, so you can meet them at dinner."
And they headed back to Ohno's room. Sho and Aiba still had bed hair, and Nino looked totally confused that he woke up on the floor.
"I'm sorry, Oh-chan," Nino moaned. "I toss and turn in my sleep alot."
"You always do," Ohno chuckled, grabbing a jar of water from his bedside table. "Now come on. Get up!"
Suddenly, Ohno waved his hand over the jar and splashed on Sho and Aiba's half-awake faces from five feet away.
"We're going to Diagon Alley and get our books," he ordered, looking pleased with Sho and Aiba's shocked faces.
"Mou!" Aiba whined. "I was awake already."
Then, a gentle gust of wind whirled around Aiba and Sho. The water dried up immediately without a towel. That was the power of Aiba's abilities...Wind.
"Thanks, Aiba-chan," Sho grinned.
"You're welcome, Sho-chan," Aiba smiled back.
"Enough of you're lovey-dovey talk," Nino complained. "I'm up. Let's go."
* * *
They walked down the streets of Diagon Alley while trying not to bump into other wizards and witches already arms full with different sized parcels. They used Ohno's fireplace and Floo Powder to get here. Ohno actually wanted to use their Rolls-Royce cars, since he likes them. In the end, they had to go by Floo Network since Aiba wouldn't stop asking questions how 'such a strange contraption' worked without magic.
Jun was already having a fun time being back in the magical world. All the witches and wizards were pointing their wands, and sparks of colorful lights flew around the air. Small vendors were selling magical floating objects and garments. And children were running around and eating mini explosion candies.
'And they are all unaware...' Jun thought, watching the three boys walk in front of him.
"Let's go to Flourish and Blotts," Nino suddenly grabbed Jun's arm and dragged him away from Ohno, Sho, and Aiba without consulting them.
"W-wait a minute!" Jun said, still being dragged by Nino. The three other boys were out of sight already.
"There's something I need to getm," Nino said, urgently. He made his way through the crowded store and looked up and down the bookshelves.
Jun didn't know what else to do but follow Nino. For a moment, Jun thought Nino was going to pull him away to a quiet corner, but Nino scanned the shelves carefully. Then, he finally pulled one book down.
"Here," Nino breathed. "The Steps of DansuMahou."
"DansuMahou?" Jun mumbled, suddenly curious. "Where have I heard that before?"
Nino rolled his eyes.
"Of course, a dim-witted Muggle-born Gryffindor could never know what DansuMahou is," Nino said, laughing. Jun narrowed his eyes as he grabbed the book to take a better look at its contents.
"...Oh!" Jun gasped. "I remember now. Ohno told me about this a long time ago."
"Really?" Nino said, heavy with sarcasm.
"DansuMahou is the magic of movement!" Jun smiled, feeling excited. "We can finally take it this year!"
"Yeah," Nino rolled his eyes again. "The brainless Gryffindor finally gets it."
Jun lightly smacked Nino's head with the book. He handed Nino back his copy as Jun reached up for his own.
"Come on, let's head back to the others," Jun said, ready to purchase his book.
"Why bother?" Nino brought up, sadly. "They were in their own world again."
Jun lost his smile once again. He noticed it too. The moment they set foot on Diagon Alley, Ohno's, Sho's, and Aiba's facial expressions changed to the blank stare again. They walked down the streets so calmly and elegantly like powerful beings. Jun even noticed that a few people moved aside for them.
'They give off a powerful aura,' Jun sighed.
"They wouldn't even noticed we were gone," Nino mumbled.
"We should still stay with them," Jun said. "We can't just keep ignoring them forever. They're still our friends."
"They're not the friends I used to know," Nino said, his eyes staring at the ground. Jun sighed.
"Actually," Jun said, his voice very low, "I've been viewing things very...black and white."
Jun stared at the people outside the store, smiling and laughing. He watched them looking so happy under a bright sun while he remained inside a dark and quiet place.
"I've been feeling the same way too," Nino confessed. "The world...seems too bright."
How long will it be until the fourth talisman is found and fused with perfect host? How long will it be until all the happy smiles will be wiped away? How long until the Vocal Wizards return?
'I wonder who it'll be,' Jun thought.
"Let's go," Nino finally said.
* * *
"We've lost them," Jun gave up, sitting on a bench. Nino also plopped down next to him.
"Maybe they actually left," Nino said.
"Back to Ohno's house?"
"No...the all-mighty Vocal Wizards decided to go on their own," Nino said.
"Don't joke around. They must be looking for us too," Jun snapped. "Why did you had to pull us away anyways?"
"Because I wanted to," Nino said, staring across the street. "I like being with you alone."
Jun side-glanced at him before he sighed heavily through his nose.
"I have a girlfriend now," Jun said, looking away.
"For now..." Nino uttered, but Jun heard him.
"If you think I'll let you get in between us-"
"I won't do such a thing," Nino shrugged. "But I will say this...I can make you happier."
Nino finally gazed at Jun, and they stayed there staring for what felt like hours. If Jun knew Nino, there is a trick being played. Jun knows there is something much deeper than what is said, but the impossible part is reading Nino just right.
"You sure looked happier with Ohno than me," Jun finally came up. Nino's eyebrows twitched.
"What makes you think that, sweet lips?" Nino said, trying to play coolly.
"I've seen the pictures," Jun said. "The ones in Ohno's house on the hallway tables. There are pictures of you two when you were young. I could tell it was your face."
Nino's facial expression remained bleak.
"You looked really happy," Jun said, gently. Nino opened his mouth about to say something, but his shoulders drooped and he sighed sadly.
"I love you, Jun," Nino said, seriously. Jun immediately felt uncomfortable. "I had a dream last night actually...about you."
This time, Jun glared back hard. A deep frown itched on his forehead.
"You're lying," Jun said.
"Wh-what are you talking about?" Nino said, half-chuckling. "How could I lie about this? I've been telling you I've-"
"No, about the dream," Jun cut him off. "You're lying. You weren't dreaming about me. I know."
This time, Nino frowned.
"I heard you talking in your sleep," Jun confessed. "You were saying Ohno's name."
Nino's eyes widen that Jun couldn't help but smirk in his victory.
'Have I finally shed some light?' Jun wondered. Nino scooched away from the bench, looking uncomfortable himself.
"Is there something that happened?" Jun asked. Nino's hand twitched.
Jun watched Nino's reaction closely. The young Slytherin gazed left and right on the ground. He sucked his bottom lip as if he was nervous, and he was being fidgety. Jun started to wonder about Nino's past...
"What was your childhood like...Nino?" Jun asked.
Nino side-glanced at Jun. His eyes looked extremely miserable that even Jun felt a sense of sadness. Nino opened his mouth to speak-
"There you are!"
"We've been looking for all over for you, you punks!"
"Sho, Aiba...Ohno!" Jun gasped, as the three boys walked up to them. Nino immediately stood up.
"Where did you go?" Sho asked.
"Sorry, I wanted to buy some things," Nino blurted out, talking fast. "I thought we'd be able to catch up with you guys, but we couldn't find you. Sorry."
"Calm down, Nino," Aiba laughed. "It's not like we're mad."
Ohno hasn't said a word, but his blank face was still on. And he only focused his eyes straight at Jun.
"Well, if you guys are done, let's head back to Ohno's place," Sho said. "We've done our shopping."
"Y-yeah, sure," Jun said, feeling nervous under Ohno's blank stare.
"Great," Aiba sighed, rubbing his temples. "I don't think I can take much more here."
"Yeah, me too," Sho nodded. "Who would have thought that people are so noisy."
Nino frowned. "It's not that noisy," he said. Jun thought so too.
"No, it's not like that," Sho said. "We can't handle all the voices in the minds of all these witches and wizards," he explained. "It's too noisy for us."
"W-what a minute," Nino said, "you all can read other people's minds?!"
"To an extent, yeah," Aiba said. "But when there are so many people here, it's hard to drain out the noise racking around in my mind. And I can't register what they're all saying. It's like a crazy beehive."
"Sometimes it's helpful to go to a quiet place," Sho added. "When we're farther away from people, we can't read them."
Nino just nodded, but his mouth was still opened. Jun, however, haven't left his eyes on Ohno who was still staring right back at him with a blank face. Jun wasn't sure if Ohno was just being dumb, or if the Vocal Wizard was showing personality.
'Can you read my mind?' Jun thought. 'Are your powers different from the others?'
Ohno smiled.
Jun's eyes widen with fear.
'Am I talking to the Vocal Wizard?'
Ohno blinked.
'If I am...what do you know about the Earth Talisman?'
Ohno frowned slighty.
'What must I know about the Earth Vocal Wizard?' Jun's mind raced. 'Where can I find the Earth Talisman?!'
"Jun!" Sho barked.
"What?" Jun snapped back to reality.
"Don't 'what' at me! Let's get going already!" Sho complained, already a few feet away with Aiba and Nino.
The five of them walked back to the Leaky Cauldron to use the large fireplace for Floo Network. Jun and the boys nodded politely to the bar keeper, Maya Mika. Sho went first, then Aiba, and then Nino. Jun was about to follow when Ohno grabbed his wrist.
"What's wrong?" Jun asked. Ohno didn't say anything, and Jun immediately knew he was talking to the Vocal Wizard again. Jun gulped. "Where is Ohno?"
"He's here," he said.
Jun felt cold. Ohno's voice was the same, but it was tranquil and quiet. Like water...like a gentle lullaby...like UtaMahou...
"Who are you really?" Jun asked, feeling scared. "Are you really the Vocal Wizard? Have you gotten used to Ohno's body so much you can posses his voice?"
He just blinked.
"What do you want with us?!" Jun said, trying to keep his voice under control. "Why must it be Ohno? Why not someone else?"
"Earth," he said, "has many faces."
"W-what?"
"It is always present," he continued. "It knows all. Never be fooled."
"Wh-what does that even mean?" Jun said, feeling frustrated. "What else is there?"
Jun stared long and hard at him, waiting for the Vocal Wizard to speak again. But Ohno frowned at him.
"What are you staring at me for?" Ohno's normal voice came back. "Hurry up already."
'He's back,' Jun gulped. 'Does that mean he's unaware whenever the Vocal Wizard possessing him?'
"Want me to go first?" Ohno asked.
"N-no, I'll go," Jun said, pitching the Floo powder and throwing into the fire.
The green flames grew and Jun stepped into the fireplace.
"Ohno Estate," Jun recited and wisked away.
He felt his feet finally land on hard stone, and he lightly brushed the soot off his clothes. But before Jun could even look up, someone pulled his arm and led him down the hallways.
"Whoa!" Jun gasped, realizing it was Nino. "What's going on?"
Nino turned around, breathing heavily.
"The Elites are here," Nino said anxiously, Sho and Aiba appeared around the corner.
"So? There on our side right?" Jun shrugged. Sho and Aiba looked anxious.
"They're here because SIN is coming," Sho said.
