Chapter 2 - Sudden Attack
***Ohno's POV***
Ohno woke up as he started to hear the sounds of the morning birds. He rolled to his side and felt something soft next to him. He fluttered his eyes opened and saw Nino lying next to him. His back faced Ohno...naked.
Ohno, now wide awake, looked under the blankets and realized they were both naked. He looked over his shoulder and saw a few empty bottles of Fire Whiskey on the floor. Ohno groaned as he remembered what happened last night.
Nino had thrown a tantrum again and started blaming himself, so Ohno found the alcohol cabinet. He knew Nino's mother was a chef and used them for cooking, but he remembered when they were kids they would steal a bottle to try.
So Ohno started drinking with Nino last night hoping that Nino would shut up and be a little cheerful. After a few drinks, things started looking fuzzy. Even Ohno couldn't remember what happened when they got into bed.
As Ohno slowly walked across the room, he felt sore around his lower back. He wobbled to the bathroom and took a long warm shower. He was still sore when he walked out, and Nino was awake. Thankfully, he had his boxers on.
"Morning," Nino rubbed his eyes, smiling like nothing happened last night. "You should have woken me up and then we could've taken a shower together."
Ohno just scratched his nose.
"We better get ready," Ohno said. "We have a train to catch."
They packed their trunks with their school supplies and ate breakfast. Nino's mother was, again, gone to work. Nino doesn't mind and has grown used to being by himself, but Ohno felt sorry for Nino being alone for so long all these years.
"It's not like I never see her," Nino reassured Ohno. "She's just really busy being a single mother. And I respect her for that."
Ohno nodded.
Finally, they gathered their things and traveled by Floo Powder to Platform Nine and Three Quarters. The platform buzzed already in the morning. The red train blew steam and looked ready to board. The students were running around, finding their friends, saying goodbye to their parents, and loading their trunks.
Within the crowd, someone bumped into Ohno.
"Oh my gosh! It's him!" Someone squealed.
Ohno turned around and stared down at a little boy.
"Oh...I know you. You're Chinen Yuri," Ohno grinned. "You're a Gryffindor, right?"
"This will be my third year," Chinen smiled. Nino appeared around Ohno's shoulder.
"Who are you? Go away!" Nino glared at him.
"Ignore him. He's just jealous," Ohno chuckled
"I'm actually a big fan of yours!" Chinen smiled. "Last year, everyone heard about your amazing dance moves in DansuMahou. And that you're the only Gryffindor in your Slytherin family and that you're friends with Sakurai Sho and Aiba Masaki and-"
"What do you want?" Nino continued to eye at him with fierce jealousy. Chinen looked scared.
"I'll tell you what, Chinen," Ohno patted his shoulder. "Since you're a third year, you can hang out with us when we go to Hogsmeade."
"Really?!" Chinen clasped his hands with glee. Ohno nodded. "I can't wait! I'll see you then!"
And the tiny Gryffindor boy skipped away. Nino just glared at Ohno.
"What was that all about?" Nino pouted. Ohno laughed.
"I like seeing your face so jealous," Ohno said.
After surviving through the wrath of Nino's jealousy rants ("Don't talk to him!" "He's a dork." "I'm better than him and you know that!"), Nino and Ohno got on board and found an empty compartment to themselves.
"Should we go find Sho and Aiba?" Ohno suggested. Nino looked out the window.
"Oh, I see them," Nino said, tapping the window. Ohno looked out too.
Sho and Aiba were together and hauling their trunks as well. After a few taps from Nino, they looked up and spotted them. Waving, they boarded on the train and found their compartment.
"Hey," Aiba greeted. Sho sat next to him. "How was your summer?"
"Ohno stayed the last few days at my place," Nino said proudly. "What about you?"
"Tracking down information my father sent me about the missing reports around the world," Sho said straightforward and arms crossed.
"Sounds like fun," Nino said, his eyebrow raised. Ohno sighed heavily.
From a distance, they heard the sound of the train whistle. They finally started moving and slowly gained speed. Ohno couldn't help but think that there was one person missing in this compartment, but that person never boarded the train...
"Anything new?" Ohno finally asked. Sho stretched his long legs, getting comfortable.
"Nothing," Sho said. "It's the same thing the past few weeks. Missing people, weapons, metals. All happening at random places and times. No pattern whatsoever."
"If you ask me, it sounds like he's collecting for something," Aiba said. "Why does he need all those people?"
"And all those weapons," Ohno nodded. "As a wizard, he shouldn't need those things."
"Has the Elites ever thought of a plan to stop him?" Nino asked.
"Yeah," Ohno nodded. "All the officials at my house are up every night arguing with my dad. It's insane."
"Not to mention the news are up and down about this," Aiba added. "The Muggle customers at my family's restaurant talks about it."
"I mean, would it kill the Elites to try and do something," Nino continued. "Why hasn't your father done anything?"
"They don't know where Jun is yet!" Sho yelled in frustration.
Suddenly, everyone went silent. Sho bit his lip and lowered his eyes. It felt awkward to hear his name among them even though he had always been around. Ohno felt depressed again as the memories came flooding back.
"I'm sorry, Sho," Nino finally spoke. "I didn't mean to blame your father. It's just that-"
"It's alright, Nino," Sho said, rubbing his eyes. "I'm a bit peeved too about all this. My father has tried everything he could, but even the Elites can't trust each other."
"You're kidding me," Aiba said, looking horrified.
"Can you blame them?" Nino shrugged. "One of their best man turns out to be with SIN."
"At least Naruse is no longer our Potions teacher, that's good right?" Aiba smiled, trying to lighten the mood.
No one said anything.
"I tried," Aiba mumbled, slouching in his seat.
Ohno looked out the window. The landscape showed the farmlands as they entered Tohoku region. He stared at the dull gray sky and the green fields zooming by him. Occasionally, a river would run along with them until it disappeared under a bridge. Ohno kept staring at nature. At elements...
"I don't want to go back to Hogwarts," Ohno finally spoke.
"What?" Sho laughed. "You can't be serious."
"Hogwarts is the safest place for us to go," Aiba said. "Especially during these times."
"I know but..." Ohno mumbled, leaning on his knees, "I think that we shouldn't go back."
"Why?" Nino asked.
"Have you forgotten what Headmaster Johnny told us?" Ohno said. "We are direct descendants of the real Vocal Wizards. Somewhere deep inside us is a connection to them and that's why those Horcrux talismans were a perfect match for us."
"Ohno, the Vocal Wizards could have hundreds of descendants!" Sho said.
"But we found the talismans," Ohno argued back.
"Don't remind me," Sho sighed, frowning.
"What would you do if you didn't go to Hogwarts anyway?" Nino frowned. "This year we have to take our O.W.Ls."
"Don't remind me that either!" Sho moaned louder.
"The more reason for us not to go to school," Ohno mumbled under his breath.
"The best we can do is stay in school," Nino tried to convince him. "With...J-jun out there, doing who knows what, not to mention wielding unbelievable powers-"
"You have powers too, Nino," Ohno stared back. "You can still move earth."
Nino looked like he was going to argue back, but he calmed himself.
"I only hold half of the power," Nino mumbled. Aiba and Sho looked up. "I've been testing it the past few weeks at home before you came, Oh-chan. I can move the earth alright...but I get tired very fast. I remember when I saw you guys using your powers, you looked like you could go on forever.
"But I can't," Nino concluded. "I can't read your minds or feel any presence living inside me. It's only me and half of the talisman's power still inside me."
"But maybe it's still enough to give us a chance," Aiba said, being optimistic. "Nino...you might be able to stop Jun."
Everyone stared at Nino, who looked like he wanted to run away. Ohno gently placed his hand over Nino's, trying to soothe the poor Slytherin with his calm eyes.
"I'll help you," Ohno nodded. "We'll all help you."
Nino looked unsure. "I think there's more to stopping Jun than just-"
There was a knock on their compartment door.
Startled, Sho got up and slid the door opened.
"Mao-chan!" Sho gaped.
"Hey," she greeted, her eyes round as always. Ohno felt Nino slightly sit up from his seat.
"Come in," Nino said kindly.
Ohno offered his seat and squeezed between Aiba and Sho. Nino, being the suave playboy charmer, made Mao feel comfortable, and she sat next to him. Everyone waited for her to say something. She looked extremely worried most of all. Ohno couldn't help but frown with pity.
"Are you guys talking about...Jun?" She asked, picking at her nails. The boys exchanged glances.
"Yeah," Ohno answered. "I'm sorry...for everything."
"And about the Vocal Wizards?"
Sho and Aiba gasped while Ohno's eyes widen.
"How did you know about-"
"Jun told me since our third year," Mao said. "And...Nino told me what happened to him."
Ohno, Sho, and Aiba stared at Nino, shocked. Nino just blinked and gave them a "she had to know" look.
"Sakurai-kun," she continued, sitting on the edge of her seat. "I know your father works for the Elites. Please! Do you know anything so far about Jun?"
Sho just opened and closed his fist, looking very uncomfortable.
"We don't know anything yet," he told her. "Jun hasn't been spotted."
She looked utterly heartbroken. Her eyes started to get glossy and red, but Ohno admired her for trying to hold back her tears in front of them. Nino was about to wrap his arm around her-
BOOOOOOMMM!!!
Suddenly, the world was upside down. Ohno flew off his seat as the others did. He heard them screaming and felt them bump and ram into him. He felt someone elbow on the side of his face, and he felt his back hit the ceiling.
Ohno managed to squint his eyes open and saw his friends and Mao-chan looking terrified and rolling around in the compartment. He heard glass shatter and felt a shard graze his cheek.
Ohno could hear the other students on the train screaming and crying for help. He also heard the train's metal exterior grinding on the railways and more loud noises that hurt his ear drums.
The train cart continued to roll and roll on the fields until finally the train came to a stop. Ohno coughed and smelled smoke. The others moaned and coughed as well.
"You g-guys," Ohno wheezed. "Everyone...is everyone alright?"
Sho was the first to sit up, followed by Aiba. Nino helped Mao up. The compartment was completely turned sideways, and they sat on the door side of the compartment.
"The window," Ohno pointed. He felt the place growing hot. "Quick, everyone out! I'll give you a boost."
Ohno laced his fingers together, ready to give them a lift. Mao was first and easily fitted through the large broken window above them. Nino followed, and Ohno watched him crawled out.
Suddenly, the door frame cracked underneath and Ohno's foot sank in. Luckily, Aiba grabbed him just in time and lifted him back up. The door snapped off and the fire below them flared dangerously. Now there was a large hole and very little to stand on.
"What now?!" Ohno shouted.
"Idiot!" Sho yelled, and pulled out his wand. "Levicorpus!"
Suddenly, Ohno swung up by his ankles and floated out the window. As he floated in the air, he saw the wreckage of the Hogwarts Express. Fire was blazing everywhere. Students were crawling out of windows. The entire train was off the tracks, carts uncoupled, or on its side. A few meters ahead, the train engine was engulfed in flames.
It was chaos.
Ohno landed on dry grass and met with Nino and Mao. Sho and Aiba soon followed. Everyone was safe, but they were either bruised or bleeding. Ohno turned around and watched the train burn.
"How could this happen?" Ohno whispered. He felt someone tap his shoulder.
"Ohno, if I may," Mao said, pointing her wand at his face. "Episkey."
Ohno touched his face and noticed his cut was healed. He nodded her thanks.
Suddenly, someone screamed.
Ohno whirled around and felt his skin turn cold.
A massive army of shrouded wizards in black cloaks hovered over the train wreck. Their faces were masked, and the sky turned darker as if their presence brought evil wherever they go.
Ohno reached for his wand that he always keep in his pocket.
"For His Mightiness!" One shrouded wizard roared. The soldiers shouted along.
The train started to float off the ground. The students either watched in terror or ran away screaming. Ohno and his friends watched the dark wizards levitate the massive train. Then one by one, the exterior of the train came apart. The sound the metal breaking apart and ripping away was extreme loud like a robot crying.
Right before their very eyes, the train was being scrapped and gathered into one gigantic metal ball. The dark wizards loomed over them with wands raised.
"Run!" Ohno yelled.
The students ran for their lives. A few brave older students dared to fire back jinxes, but they were no match. Ohno ran towards the forest where everyone was heading. Sho, Aiba, Nino, and Mao were ahead of him, and he never took his eyes off of them.
But from the corner of his eye, he spotted the students being lifted away. Jets of green barely missed him as he continued to run. He cased a Shield Charm behind them as they ran into the woods for cover.
But the dark wizards were still hot on their trail.
Then, Ohno felt the earth rumble underneath him. He glanced up and saw Nino standing his ground. His hands curled into fists, and his eyes glared with anger.
"Nino!" Ohno shouted.
Nino pumped his fist towards the sky, and a large wall of earth blocked the wizards from advancing. Nino extended his arms out in front of him as if he was pushing someone. Following his motion, the giant earth wall slid across the ground and towed the wizards farther and farther away.
"Nino..." Aiba gasped. Nino turned around.
"Don't get comfortable with that. They can still catch us!" Nino said. "Let's keep going. Come on!"
He grabbed Mao's arm since she was so shocked at the scene she just witness and ran deeper into the woods. Ohno, Sho, and Aiba followed him, and the others students continued to run their own ways...
* * *
"In here," Nino whispered.
He thrust his palms downward and created a tunnel leading underground. Without any question, they entered the tunnel with their wand lights to guide them. Nino shut the entrance, and they sat down in their hidden underground earth dome.
"Are you sure we'll be safe here?" Aiba asked. "What if we can't breath?"
"Don't worry," Nino said, now creating soft earth beds. "I've made tiny little air tunnels for us to breath. As long as we stay quiet, we won't be caught."
Still, Sho pointed his wand in the air and walked in circles, casting protection and defensive spells. Ohno collapsed on the earth beds, worn out to the bone. Mao looked scared beyond words.
"You..." she pointed at Nino, "you...you can m-move earth?!"
Nino just nodded, rubbing his knuckles.
"B-but....but that means you're-"
"A Vocal Wizard?" Nino shrugged. Mao gasped, stumbling backwards and tripped over the beds.
"You're a Vocal Wizard?!" She pointed.
"Not really, no," Nino said. "It's complicated."
"Nino was stabbed with a spear that had the Earth Talisman suck on it and that's how he merged with it, but Jun tried to suck his powers but only stole half of it before Nino escaped," Aiba summed it up for her.
Her mouth was still hanging open.
"What he said," Nino nodded.
"I can't believe this is happening," Sho mumbled after he finished casting his spells. "They actually attacked the Hogwarts Express! And now we're on the run."
"We need to get help right away," Ohno nodded.
"What about the others?!" Mao brought up. "They're still out there! What if someone is hurt or worse!"
"She's right. Our friends are out there!" Aiba agreed.
"We shouldn't go out at night. Those wizards might be out there," Nino said, rubbing his eyes.
"Then use your earthy powers or whatever! You can save them!" Mao yelled.
"I can't! I'm too tired!" Nino yelled back. "I can't use my powers for too long. I only hold half of the talisman's power. When I use too much at once I get really weak."
"But..." Mao whimpered, "...we can't just sit here!"
"Mao-chan," Sho said in a gentle voice. "We can't do anything right now. Our best plan of action is wait a little longer until the coast is clear."
"And then what?" Mao asked. Sho glanced down at the floor.
"We'll head for Ogura-san's place," Ohno brought up. Everyone looked at him. "We can't be too far from Akita. Maybe a day's journey and we'll be there. It's better than walking all the way to Tokyo...or Hogwarts."
"I don't think Hogwarts will be a choice," Sho mumbled. "The train was attacked. My guess is that Hogwarts is taken too."
"That can't be!" Aiba said in bewilderment. "Headmaster Johnny would never let Hogwarts fall!"
"Aiba! Did you not see the army we saw today?!" Nino scowled. "There were thousands of them! A bunch of teachers can't stand against that!"
Aiba plopped down on his earth bed in defeat.
"No way," Aiba whispered. "Is there really no safe place to go?"
"We have to try," Ohno said. "Ogura-san's house is our only option."
Everyone grew quiet. Mao sniffed quietly in the corner. Nino had his elbows resting on his knees, completely exhausted. Sho and Aiba sat next to each other looking worried as well.
Their friends. Their house mates. Everyone that was on that train is somewhere out there running, lost, or otherwise. Ohno would probably never see them again. And he just started getting to know little Chinen too...
"Let's get some sleep for tomorrow," Ohno said.
They all looked like they couldn't sleep, but they curled up in their earth beds and the last wand light went out...
