A.N. : This is a very boring first chapter. Sorry. I wanted to make it mysterious, but maybe I just made it boring. Trust me, second chapter is better...I hope. Anyways, I'm hoping to put the other members of JE in my story so if there's a specific person you want me to put in my story, go ahead and tell me. I'll try my best. :)
Chinen Yuuri just got off of school and limped his way to the park. He had "hurt" his leg when his father "punished" him for "misbehaving". He found a bench and sat down to rest his injured leg. He wanted to avoid home as long as possible. The more time he spent away from home, the shorter today's "punishment" will be.
"What did I ever do to deserve this horrible life." He sighed.
That was an easy answer. Nothing. He was a good kid. He did his chores, got good grades, obeyed his parents, and never misbehaved. What was his reward? A beating and being sent to his room without dinner. (or breakfast or lunch) It was amazing he could survive everyday life being so malnourished. Why? His dad and step mom hated his guts. They blamed him for every thing that went wrong. It wasn't his fault they were poor. His father was an abusive drunk man who had gambling problems. His step mother was a crazy alcoholic that Chinen's father would do anything do please her. No matter what Chinen did, he couldn't make his parents happy. Eventually, he just gave up.
Chinen buried his face in his arms. He tried to recall what his mother looked like. The sad thing was, he never could. He had lost his mother at a very young age. He did, however, remember her voice.
Work hard and do your best, Chii, because one day, it will come back and repay you. So don't give up, okay?
That was the only thing he memorized about his mother. He could tell his mother was a gentle, nice person from the sound of her soothing voice. It was a wonder how someone like his mother could end up with someone like his father. If only his mother was still around, maybe things would be different. Maybe-
"Hi."
Chinen looked up, surprised. No one ever talked to him. Maybe it was because he didn't want to get close to a person because of what happened to his mother. Maybe it was because he was afraid people would hate him like his dad and step mom. Maybe he was just plain anti-social.
In front of Chinen were two boys around his age, perhaps a couple years older. They were about the same height, but you could definitely tell one was taller than the other. Of course, they were taller than Chinen. Being not fed enough had effected his growth so you could say he was a bit short. They both had friendly faces and were smiling at Chinen.
"Ano, are you speaking to me?" He pointed a finger to his chest.
"Who else is there?" The taller answered, still smiling, "My name is Inoo. This is Daiki." He said pointing to the other boy.
"May we sit down?" the one named Daiki asked.
Chinen nodded.
Inoo sat on Chinen's right while Daiki sat on Chinen's left.
"What's your-" Inoo started to ask but was interrupted by Chinen's growling stomach.
Chinen blush furiously, covering his burning face in his hands.
"How cute." Inoo chuckled softly to himself.
"Here, have something to eat."
Chinen peeked from between his fingers. Daiki was offering him a yummy looking bun. He could feel his tummy rumbling with hunger from the sight of the bread, but he couldn't take it. He was too suspicious from where the roll had come from. It was as if it had appeared out of nowhere.
Seeing Chinen not taking the bun, Inoo snatched it from Daiki.
"Look, it's not poisoned." Inoo pointed out.
To prove it, he broke off a small piece and ate it.
"See? Now take it."
Inoo gently forced Chinen to take the loaf of bread. Chinen hesitantly took a small nibble, found it to be delicious, and eagerly ate it.
While Chinen was enjoying his food, Inoo and Daiki was having a conversation.
"Poor guy. His father really starves him." Daiki sighed.
"Did you see his hands? Their covered in bruises. If we don't make the switch soon, those parents of his are going to kill him!" Inoo added.
"Shh! Not so loud. We don't want him to hear us!" Daiki warned.
Chinen was too into eating, he wasn't paying any attention to the two.
"We better get going. Bye, Chinen!" Inoo waved.
That made Chinen stop eating. He didn't tell them his name. How did they know?
"Do your best and it will surely repay you. So don't give up." Daiki added.
That was almost exactly what his mom had said. Now that was just plain creepy.
Chinen was about them where they were going and to question them about his name, but when he looked up, they were gone. Just as mysteriously as how the bread had appeared from thin air, Daiki and Inoo had disappeared.
Chinen licked his lips and finished eating. Surely it was just a coincidence. There was no way they were connected with his deceased mother. He was also sure that they had just looked at his book bag. It did have Belongs to Chinen Yuuri on the front. Yes, it was just a crazy coincidence. Things like miracles only happen in fairy tales. And this was not a fairy tale. This was real life.

"You useless piece of shit! Clean that up right now!" Chinen's father yelled at him
Chinen whimpered. He hastily picked up the broken pieces of glass.
"You can go faster than that! Don't cry, you moron! You call yourself a man?" The man roared again.
The man swiped at Yuuri, hitting him hard ion the head. The impact made Yuuri drop the glass and cut himself. He winced at the pain, but quickly gather up the glass and threw it away.
"He broke my favorite glass!" His step mother wailed.
Chinen glared at her. I broke it? You're blaming this on me when YOU were the one who dropped it?
"Look at him! He's glaring at me!" Chinen's step mom cried again.
"You ungrateful little brat! We put a roof over your head and you give us attitude!" His father growled at him.
Chinen had just returned home and his parents were blaming him again. His step mother had dropped her favorite glass. So what does she do? She blames it on Chinen. It was okay. Chinen was used to this kind of treatment even though he was getting really tired of it. What could he do?
"Go up to your room right now! No dinner for you!" Chinen's father hissed at his son.
Chinen rushed out of the room. If he had stayed any longer, he would most likely get hit again. Today was actually considered better than most days so Chinen was quite grateful.
Chinen's room was probably the smallest room in the house. Not that he was complaining, but it was true.
He sat at his small, cramped desk as he finished his homework. Once he was done, he decided to try to get some sleep. Right before he shut off his desk lamp, he saw a shooting star.
Now, Chinen was a pretty bright guy. He knew shooting stars were actually meteors burning up in the atmosphere. They don't really grant wishes, but Chinen got an feeling that he should make a wish anyways. It is pretty rare to see a shooting star after all.
He closed his eyes and put his hands together.
"I wish I could see my mom just once."
That was impossible. She wasn't around anymore. She couldn't magically come back to life, but Chinen really wanted to see what she looked like.
He opened his eyes. Nothing happened. Predictable. Chinen let out a disappointed sigh anyways.
"I hope meeting Daiki and Inoo wasn't just a coincidence. I hope the shooting star meant something." He stared out his window and into the dark night. "I hope it's a sign."
Ridiculous. Completely idiotic. Things like that don't happen. Chinen told himself.
Still... it couldn't hurt to wish for it.
He turned off his lamp and lay in his bed until his aching body and grumbling stomach finally made him fall asleep.
Little did he know that the angels heard his wishes...
