2008

Stolen shamelessly from redpikachu.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Went on a cruise without my parents.

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't even remember if I made any, let alone kept them. So probably not.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not close, but there were some pretty important births.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
She wasn't close to me. So no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Mexico, technically.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Same things I always want, and kvetch about.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I'm bad with dates. ACen was fun, the cruise was fun, GenCon was amazing. So I guess those things.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
None.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Personally? Not sure; there were a few. I feel incredibly guilty about not finishing NaNoWriMo this year, though, especially since I was able to do it in 2007.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
A couple nervous breakdowns, those were short-lived, and a more long-term underlying depression.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
I've bought people lots of things, but I can't recall getting anything that wasn't a little tchochke. I don't think anyone bought me anything; if I'm wrong, please remind me.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I am actually having a really hard time answering this question. I think there were a lot of people whose behaviour both merited celebration, but also appalled and depressed me.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My own, and certain people that I don't interact with but who interact with my friends.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Loans and food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Any out-of-state trip I was going to take.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Incubus, "Quicksand". Alternately, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, "Waiting for the Beat to Kick In"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Sadder.
b) fatter or skinner? Quite literally the same.
c) richer or poorer? Technically poorer, but I own more goods as well.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I went out more.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Complaining (HAR HAR HAR I AM SO META).

20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
Go see The Spirit, eat good Chinese Food.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Yes.

22. How many one night stands?
No.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Reaper or Pushing Daisies; Fringe turned out to be really really excellent too. I'm not sure which of those 3 I'd pick.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Sort of? Not really.

25. What was the best book you read?
I read almost every single Terry Pratchett Discworld novel this year; it's unfair for me to single any one out. Night Watch, though. Maybe Jingo. I freaking love Sam Vimes.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dan le Sac.

27. What did you want and get?
...

28. What did you want and not get?
...

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
WALL-E

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Held a "Sagar+Zach+Weston+Justin" birthday party at Pig's Place. I remember it was pretty wild. I turned 23.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
HAHAHAHAHAHA I don't think I can answer this without embarassing myself

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
More collared shirts. Trying to dress slightly nicer at least some of the time.

33. What kept you sane?
This implies that I'm sane. What an odd concept.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Duh. Obama!

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The election.

36. Who do you miss?
The Normal crew -- Michelle, Eli, Jack, Travis, Chris, Amy. The Chicago peeps -- Dustin, Lindsey, Justin, Weston, Jon, Amanda. Hopefully I'll get to game with at least one of you! Oh, and Adam too, of course :D and Mike, hope you're enjoying D.C.!

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Tough to say. Stacy's pretty cool. A lot of that group of people (from DDR) are.

38. What was the best thing you ate?
Chicken quesadilla at a restaurant in Cozumel. It was... I don't think words can really do it justice.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008?
Be patient and don't make assumptions. If people care about you, they'll try to talk to you, but if they don't try to talk to you it doesn't mean they don't care.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

Now I'm sure you've had times when you've felt down or angry,
wanted to lash out, punch a wall and be manly,
but the question I pose now will offer you a plan B
and maybe some peace and quiet for your friends and family.
How hard is it to decide to be in a good mood
and then just be.. in.. a good mood?
That's all I have to say because it's a straight up fact,
you control your emotions it's as simple as that

Had another bout of insomnia last night (this morning); didn't get to sleep until 5, was woken up at 6 by dogs, tossed fitfully in bed until 8. I did get about an hour of confusing dreams beforehand, though. Stuff about magic scrolls, and of having a house in the California Hills that got destroyed -- but we saved the wine in the wine cellar using a stretcher. Befriending random beach blondes... but nothing really significant. Nothing that stuck with me.

I've never been good at gifts, or holidays, or presents... but I do have money this year. I know it's kind of a stupid way to go about it and not at all traditional, but send me a message, leave me a comment; let me know what you want and I'll get it/do it as best I can and as soon as I can. Think of my Christmas/Hanukkah gift like this: IOU one favor. Anything. All of you. Whenever. I couldn't have lasted this year without you.
